The Texas sheriff who launched an investigation into Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for sending 50 illegal aliens to Martha’s Vineyard isn’t just a typical Democrat zealot — he’s also, it would appear, a supporter of defacto amnesty.
Speaking on CNN this Tuesday, Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar openly called for Americans to “embrace” illegal migration by hiring the millions of illegals who’ve been pouring across the border.
He made the plea after being asked by CNN’s Alisyn Camerota for a “solution to what’s happening at the border.”
Listen:
“I mean, I think at some point you’re going to have to embrace the fact that this is happening to a certain extent. I would say, look, we’ve got people that want to work. They want to do an honest day’s work for an honest day’s pay, not for slave wages. Give them an honest day’s pay,” he said.
“And you’ve got a shortage of workers. If you go to any restaurant in San Antonio, Texas right now, you’re going to wait a long time to get your table, even though there’s empty tables, because there’s not enough wait staff to wait on you. You’re going to wait a long time for your food, because there’s not enough people to cook it in the back.”
Salazar added, “Half of the cooks maybe aren’t showing up to work or they’ve quit. Hire these folks. Give them the opportunity to work legally and then make sure that the employers that are employing them are doing it the right way and paying them correctly.”
In other words, Americans should support illegal aliens being hired by U.S. restaurants because then Americans wouldn’t have to wait long for their food …
Sheriff Javier Salazar said that we should embrace the 2M migrants because we need restaurant staff. You can’t make this s*** up.

You’re on .@CNN advocating for restaurant owners to hire illegals, which is against federal laws, so you can eat faster in restaurants.

Why are you going on national TV and telling people to break the law? You are telling companies to hire illegal aliens without work authorization. This is a felony. You are living in a fantasy world. You are not playing cops and robbers on the playground anymore. You are grown up

Continuing his remarks, Salazar again called for Americans to hire illegals — this time so that they can be taxed and pay “their fair share.”
“Tax them on it so that they’re paying taxes on any income that they’re making. They’re not making any more than anybody else. But they’re not making any less than anybody else, either, and they’re paying their fair share of taxes,” he said.
To his credit, he did at least admit that not every illegal alien would be eligible to remain and work in the United States.
“Obviously, I know we can’t let anybody into the county. There’s going to be people that are undesirables. They may have a terrorist background. They may have a criminal background. Keep those folks in their country of origin. But people that just want to do a hard day’s work for a hard day’s pay, bring them on in and let’s put them to work. Let’s let them do some stuff,” he said.
To his credit again, Salazar also slammed Vice President Kamala Harris over her claim that the border is secure.
Listen:
“I don’t think that the border is as secure as the folks in D.C. might believe. I’ve talked to lots of my fellow sheriffs here in the state of Texas, Republican and Democrat,” he said.
“I think that if the White House came down and got an eye on Texas and saw firsthand, which is what I’ve been asking them for a while, come down here and get an eye on the problem, I would beg to differ. I don’t think the border is as secure as what folks are maybe telling them. With that being said, I think there’s some solutions to be had. But it’s going to start with somebody from D.C. making the trip down here and talking to us.”
Salazar, a registered Democrat, went viral earlier this week when he launched an investigation into DeSantis on the basis that someone working for the Florida governor had recruited illegals from Bexas County to send to Martha’s Vineyard.
The Florida governor responded to the stunt, reiterating again for the hundredth time that the illegals who’d been flown to Martha’s Vineyard had done so voluntarily.
NEW: On background call w/ reporters just now, senior FL officials said all of the migrants flown to Martha’s Vineyard were sleeping on streets at border in TX, went voluntarily, & were given hotels, showers, etc beforehand. They said some migrants chose to stay behind. @FoxNews

He also noted that, based on how illegals in Bexas County were previously treated, they were far better off in Martha’s Vineyard.
