A comparison of the president to a child who lost their goldfish after a question regarding the assassination of Charlie Kirk followed one late-night host’s attempt to style the suspect as MAGA.
Monday’s installment of ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” found the eponymous host methodically insulating the echo chamber that he and his viewers occupy in order to keep up appearances that wanton acts of violence are a both-sides issue. Before taking a potshot at President Donald Trump, challenging how the chief executive was coping with the tragedy, Kimmel advanced a hoax that the suspect in custody was a supporter rather than a leftist ideologue.
“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” claimed the host before quickly moving on from the “finger-pointing” to liken the assassinated husband and father to a goldfish.

Pivoting from highlighting criticism of Trump for ordering flags be flown at half-staff in honor of Kirk with no mention of the widespread support for the decision, Kimmel went on to share a snippet from the president’s Thursday press gaggle where, when asked how he was “holding up” in the aftermath of the assassination, he responded in part, “I think very good. And by the way, right there, you see all the trucks? They’ve just started construction for the new ballroom for the White House…”
“Yes, he’s at the fourth stage of grief: construction … This is not how an adult grieves the murder of somebody he called a friend,” argued the host. “This is how a four-year-old mourns a goldfish, okay?”
Kimmel then shared a clip from the president’s appearance on “Fox & Friends” where he once again spoke of the White House renovations that were top of mind because, as Trump explained, he was with the architects at the time he was made aware that Kirk had been fatally shot.
“And then we installed the most beautiful chandelier,” the host further mocked. “Sconces you wouldn’t believe. There’s something wrong with him, there really is. I mean, who thinks like that?”
As previously reported, amid fallacious claims about Kirk’s views that saw him framed as a racist bigot, some attempted to sell the notion that the suspected assassin “embraced the far right” based on views attributed to his family despite the mother indicating her son “had become more political and had started to lean more to the left — becoming more pro-gay and trans-right oriented.”
California Rep. Dave Min (D) was among those who posted, “Now that the Charlie Kirk assassin has been identified as MAGA, I’m sure Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and all the insane GOP politicians who called for retribution against the ‘RADICAL LEFT’ will now shift their focus to stopping the toxic violence of the RADICAL RIGHT.”
Reactions to Kimmel’s monologue called for an apology and correction from Kimmel as well as for ABC to fire him or lose its broadcast license for platforming dangerous conspiracy theories.
This is like 100x worse than I would have ever expected. Just telling obvious lies. I wouldn’t even expect this from AOC or Bernie, the basic denial of the truth that the shooter was a leftist. Seeing it from a comedian and talk show host on prime time is actually shocking to me.

Hey @ABCNetwork @Disney … Get this clown Kimmel off the air.

@JimmyKimmelLive is just a disgusting human being @ABCNetwork and @Disney should do something about this idiot spreading lies about the assassin being on the right. Was clearly a leftist according to all the evidence. But truth doesn’t matter to him.

Hey @jimmykimmel @JimmyKimmelLive, based on today’s press conference, the reading of the charges, and the release of the information surrounding text messages between the assassin and his roommate/boyfriend. Care to issue an apology/retraction/correction tonight with the same…

This may, in fact, be the worst, most obvious lie going against all available facts that the left has ever devised.
