Socialist candidate storms off after uncomfortable questions about her social media posts

Gotham’s latest socialist starlet decidedly stormed out of a live interview rather than address controversial remarks about “f*cking nationalism.”

The latest death knell for both New York City and the Democratic Party at large came on Tuesday as the primary elections proved a resounding success for socialists and socialist-backed candidates. This included Darializa Avila Chevalier, who, with the support of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D), sent the incumbent packing hours after she bailed on a radio interview over challenges to her record.

A clip of the interview with radio station Mega 97.9 featured the now-Democratic nominee to represent New York’s 13th Congressional District claiming to be the victim of “dehumanizing attacks” before she insisted, “I am not going to sit here and be yelled at by various people.”

“Have a beautiful day,” she said before making a closing appeal to voters to elect someone who will fight for them as she removed her headphones and stormed off.

Before she would go on to defeat incumbent Rep. Adriano Espaillat to represent the district encompassing Upper Manhattan and neighborhoods in the West Bronx, a host had asked the politician to “address the Dominican community that may feel bad for the things she has said in the past.”

While broadly admitting remorse for past tweets, she pivoted to promote the time to “fight for the things that are necessary for the community.”

When specifically challenged on the controversy surrounding the Dominican flag, she deflected to try to talk about “issues that are impacting the residents of New York 13.”

Of the controversial social media posts that Avila Chevalier had made, El Nuevo Diario’s Jamie Rincón had shared screenshots, including one that read, “I got mad love for my people, but this f*cking nationalism is why I don’t be putting that flag in my bio that sh*t is violent and there is nothing good that can come of it. And while it’s def not exclusive to the DR we shouldn’t ever let it slide.”

As previously reported, her since-deleted extreme takes also featured her calls for abolishing the police, seizing private property and putting the government in control of industry.

What’s more, the nominee who lead Hamas sympathizing protests at Columbia University as an alum who earned a Bachelor of Arts in Middle Eastern studies also insisted in August 2020 that “Israel doesn’t exist.” Born to immigrant parents from the Dominican Republic, the politician who was part of a campus group that called for “Death to America” has lived abroad in the Dominican Republic, Venezuela and Judea and Samaria.

In addition to Avila Chevalier’s win, Mamdani-backed Brad Lander defeated incumbent Rep. Dan Goldman (D) and fellow Democratic Socialist Claire Valdez won the open primary to replace outgoing Rep. Nydia Velázquez (D).

As New York Rep. Mike Lawler (R) put it amid concerned reactions to the latest leftward lurch in politics, “The Democrat party has officially become the party of Zohran, AOC, & Bernie.”
