Sparks flew on Fox News this Friday during a debate about the legitimacy, or lack thereof, of Attorney General Merrick Garland’s appointment of a special counsel to investigate President Joe Biden’s youngest son, Hunter.
Occurring a couple of hours after Garland made the announcement, the debate began with Fox News’s “The Five” liberal co-host Jessica Tarlov slamming Republicans for complaining about the appointment of a special prosecutor.
Listen:
“The good thing, I guess, is it seems like it’s going to be a good day for justice, in that he’s [Hunter] going to be fully investigated. It seems to me that David Weiss wanted this now because he wants to be able to charge him in California and in D.C., which he wouldn’t have been able to do,” Tarlov began.
“But the Republicans yet again are being incredibly craven and contradicting themselves. Thirty-three Senate Republicans signed a letter saying we need a special counsel. Half of the GOP conference signed a letter saying we need a special counsel,” she continued.
Fellow co-host Brian Kilmeade then cut in with a fact-check: “But not the same guy.”
“That’s the whole point,” co-host Jeanine Pirro then added.
They were talking about Weiss, the U.S. attorney who’s already been investigating Hunter, and who, it appears, was the one who approved the junior Biden’s sweetheart plea deal that was rejected late last month for being far too broad.

Tarlov responded by pushing back on Kilmeade and Pirro’s point.
“It isn’t actually the whole point. There would be a problem with anyone except for, I don’t know, John Eastman and Rudy Giuliani if they were the special prosecutor. David Weiss is a Trump-appointed …,” she said before being cut off by Pirro.
“David Weiss lied …,” the former judge said before she in turn was cut off by Tarlov.
“He did not,” Tarlov said, doubling down on her argument.
“Can I finish?” Pirro promptly responded. “David Weiss lied to Jim Jordan when he said he had all the power he needed. Because we know from an October 2022 meeting with the FBI, the IRS, and then a contemporary made business record, that he said that he wasn’t given permission to prosecute in other jurisdictions. That’s a lie.”

Again Tarlov disagreed.
“It came from Melissa … who was not in the room when that happened. It isn’t a lie, and David Weiss confirmed …,” she said before being cut off again, this time by co-host Lawrence Jones.
“You know what’s not a lie?” Jones asked.
“You know what’s not a lie that you’re cutting me off?” Tarlov replied in an attempt to redirect the conversation back her way.
“Let me say this. You know what’s not a lie,” Jones continued, ignoring her.
That’s when co-host Katie Pavlich cut in to rush to Tarlov’s defense, saying, “Let her finish her point first.”
“Go ahead,” Jones then said.
Tarlov then concluded her point, saying, “That’s very generous of you, thank you. David Weiss hasn’t lied, and Merrick Garland confirmed it today, saying he had all the powers that he asked for — I would have made him special counsel, but he didn’t ask.”
So who was right? The evidence suggests it wasn’t Tarlov.
Notice, for example, how she mentioned Weiss’ desire to prosecute Hunter in D.C. and California, two liberal jurisdictions with leftist judges galore. Judges the opposite of Judge Maryellen Noreika, the Trump-appointed Delaware judge who rejected the younger Biden’s sweetheart plea deal.
The concern, therefore, is that, by moving Hunter’s case elsewhere, Weiss will able to get away with pushing another sweetheart plea deal.
“Garland’s appointment of Weiss as special counsel, with his ‘ongoing investigation,’ will simply shield Biden from accountability before the 2024 election,” Mike Davis, the founder and president of the Article III Project, said in a statement.
“Now Garland and Weiss want to move Hunter’s criminal case away from Judge Noreika in Delaware to a more compliant Democrat judge in California or D.C. This is an obvious coverup,” he added.
And then there’s all this:
David Weiss is the same guy who let the most serious charges against Hunter expire, even tho Hunter’s counsel was offering to extend the statute of limitations.

David Weiss is the same guy who tried to mislead the DC fed judge (she caught him) into accepting a plea deal with Hunter that would have given HB immunity on EVERYTHING.

David Weiss is the same guy who was running the Hunter Biden investigation that the IRS whistleblowers said was stopped at every turn to protect Hunter and thwart an honest investigation.

So yeah, not feeling all that confident about David Weiss as the new very scary Hunter Biden special counsel.
