House GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (R-NY) is livid after an elected official in her district made a disgusting comment in the wake of the failed assassination of former President Donald Trump.
According to Fox News, Potsdam Town Councilmember Christine Paige reportedly made a now-deleted Facebook post regarding the attempt on Trump’s life, saying: “I have seen no credible proof that he’s a human being. Maybe you know something we don’t. To me, it would be akin to putting down a rabid dog.” These comments were previously reported on by local news, and Democrat Council Supervisor Marty Miller condemned them saying they are not “in any way shared” by other members.
“I can tell you firsthand this selfish act of one person’s satisfaction has been a nightmare for me and the rest of the Board the last couple of weeks,” he added, noting that the council has been receiving a lot of “phone calls, voicemails, and emails” about the statement. Miller explained that the council does not have the authority to oust the members, but he did endorse Stefanik, saying she is a “strong” leader.
Now, Stefanik told Fox News Digital that she is demanding Paige’s resignation.
“Far Left Democrats supporting political violence and the assassination of President Trump are shameful and do not deserve to represent the great people of the North Country,” she said. “Potsdam Town Board Member Christine Paige must be condemned by the NY Democrat State Party, and she must resign in disgrace after she said shooting President Trump would be like ‘putting down a rabid dog.’”
Paige previously said at the beginning of the month that she had no plans to resign from her position.
X users weighed in on the controversy:
If she won’t resign, they need to take steps to impeach or recall her. Whatever the NY law is in this matter.

Christine Paige’s violent rhetoric comparing Trump to a “rabid dog” is unacceptable and dangerous. If we tolerate this, where does it end? Stefanik is right—Paige must resign. Inciting violence has no place in our democracy

“Miller pointed out, however, that the town council cannot oust one of its own members.”
I don’t believe that for a minute, and neither should anyone else.
There is certainly an impeachment process. He just doesn’t want to do his job.

As a NY North Country resident, I condemn the statements of Christine Paige and demand that Potsdam put an end to this hateful divisive behavior.
This is not reflective of the values of North Country residents on either side of the political discussion.
