Stefanik fast tracks gubernatorial run against Hochul after NYC mayoral election: ‘Mamdani owns her’

U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) will officially announce her bid for governor of New York, a move that has been expected for months with the state reeling from years of poor management under Democrat rule.

The staunch ally of President Donald J. Trump confirmed the news that she will challenge Gov. Kathy Hochul, the Democrat incumbent, who has gone full communist with her backing of New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, who easily won election on Tuesday.

“We have crisscrossed the state. The overwhelming outpouring of support from Republicans, independents, and Democrats is that we need a new governor to save our state,” she told the New York Post.

“She owns the catastrophe from top to bottom,” Stefanik said, adding, “Kathy Hochul was fired after one term in Congress. We have overwhelmingly been elected. She’s an accidental governor, everyone knows it.”

The congresswoman was referring to Hochul’s brief tenure in the U.S. Congress, where she represented New York’s 26th congressional district from 2011 to 2013.

She said that her campaign will be “focused on making New York affordable” and “safe again.”

Hochul was handed the governorship when she replaced Andrew Cuomo, who was trampled by Mamdani, after he was forced from office in 2021, following allegations of inappropriate sexual conduct by multiple women. She was elected to a full term in 2022 and has presided over the further decline of the one-party state.

“New York State is single-party, Democrat rule,” Stefanik told the Post. “Under Kathy Hochul’s failed leadership, New York is the most unaffordable state in the nation, with the highest taxes, highest utility and energy prices, highest rent, and it’s why people are leaving in mass exodus.”

She also laid the blame for Mamdani’s election at Hochul’s feet and that the incumbent governor “owns this disaster mayor who barely broke 50%.”

“He is a socialist, he is a defund-the-police, communist, anti-semite, pro-Hamas, and Kathy Hochul hasn’t condemned a single statement he has made,” Stefanik said. “She owns this lock, stock and barrel. She also owns his position where he said he wants to raise taxes.”

The GOP gubernatorial hopeful referred to a pre-election Mamdani campaign even in Queens, where Hochul was “heckled off the stage” by his supporters who serenaded her with chants of “tax the rich.”

“She has a record of raising taxes, and she’s obviously considering doing that again, which is devastating to families who are suffering from an affordability crisis,” Stefanik told the outlet, as some Democrat state lawmakers are already on board with soaking the wealthy to underwrite the promised Mamdani-Hochul socialist utopia.

“Kathy Hochul has bent the knee to the defund-the-police communist in New York City,” she said. “She owns failed bail reform, where violent criminals are being released on our streets, wreaking havoc across communities.”

“Now more than ever, New Yorkers need a strong check and balance in the Governor’s Office to counterbalance jihadist terrorist sympathizer Commie Mamdani,” Stefanik said in a Thursday post to X. “It won’t be the Worst Governor in America @KathyHochul. Mamdani owns her and pulls Hochul’s strings like a puppet master.”

Stefanik is expected to formally announce her candidacy in a video that will come as early as Friday.
