Stephen A Smith to Dems: ‘I ain’t giving you anything. Earn it.’

Sports commentator Stephen A. Smith warned Democrats that they won’t be getting his vote for free on Monday.

Speaking to listeners of his Straight Shooter podcast, he advised black voters to stop automatically voting for Democrats just because it’s the status quo. He also suggested that Democratic candidates actually do something to earn the votes of the community rather than take it for granted.

Watch:

“I want us to stand up and say, ‘Hey, flatter me.’ Work for my vote. Don’t think that it automatically comes your way. You got to earn it. We’ve been giving the Democratic Party our vote above 80% since the 60s. I’m not saying that you change, I’m saying let them earn it,” Smith said. “As opposed to not doing anything for us, focusing on even smaller constituencies than us because we make up 13.6% of the population. Stop concerning yourself with 1% of the population, if not less, when it comes to the interest of this country and the interest of communities that fall under the purview of this country. Look out for us and don’t just be in our face, saying that the other side is racist. So don’t vote for them. Like I’m supposed to believe you’re not. Nah. Flatter me. You want me to buy a house? Show me the house. Flatter me. Want me to buy a car? Let me test drive it, flatter me.”

“I ain’t giving you anything. Earn it. That’s all I’m saying,” he concluded.

This comes as Democrats fight for their political future in the midterms, aiming to claw back even a minuscule bit of power from the Republican wave that took place in 2024. Their desperate search for an identity followed President Donald Trump’s decisive victory over former Vice President Kamala Harris, who, despite having the backing of the sitting president, celebrities, influencers, and the mainstream media, couldn’t manage to secure even one swing state.

It remains to be seen if Smith’s warning will be heeded or if the Democratic Party will continue their attempts to woo smaller voting blocs like the transgender community while they take the historical support from others, like the black community, for granted as they have been.
