New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu (R) was busy stumping for Nikki Haley on Monday as Republican voters in Iowa prepared to cast the first votes in the 2024 presidential election.
In an appearance on Fox News, Sununu championed his candidate but sounded a lot like iconic rocker Meatloaf when he commented on the one thing that he won’t do.
“If you’re sitting on the couch watching this, if you’re a Republican that’s frustrated with Donald Trump, go out and caucus for Nikki Haley. If you’re one of these people that say that Trump is the end of democracy, well, then participate in the democratic process and go caucus for Nikki Haley,” the governor said of the candidate he endorsed in the GOP primary.
When host Neil Cavuto pressed Sununu about potentially being Haley’s running mate, he answered that he would “probably not” do that.
“Look, I’d do anything for Nikki Haley but not — but probably not that. That’s not my gig,” Sununu said. “I don’t think Washington — I don’t think Washington could handle me.”
“I don’t know. I think I’m a little too hot,” he added.
Sununu did begrudgingly admit that it was “troubling” when Cavuto questioned him about a recent poll showing over 40 percent of Haley supporters would vote for President Joe Biden over Donald Trump, if the former president wins the GOP nomination.
And while Sununu said he would back Trump if he wins, even if he is a convicted felon by then, that didn’t stop the GOP frontrunner from trashing the governor after his Fox News spot.
“Just watched the guy, on FoxNews, of course, who ran for President, but never had the ‘guts’ to announce that he was doing so,” Trump wrote. “He was polling so low, including in his State of New Hampshire, that he correctly took a pass on formerly getting in. He wouldn’t have had a chance, and now he’s politically dead.”
“His name is Chris Sununu, and he is the now very unpopular Governor of New Hampshire who endorsed Nikki ‘Birdbrain’ Haley, who is seldom able to beat Crooked Joe Biden in the polls, and will never beat the Democrat Party in reality,” he continued. “Sununu is Chris Christie, without the weight. He does lots of television, and just spews out false fact after false fact.”
