One Super Bowl LVII champion’s lasting revels were considered to have crossed a line toward disrespectful Friday as coupled with the enthusiasm of a crowd of thousands with a beer and the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
More than two months after the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35, victorious tight end Travis Kelce held a music festival to coincide with the NFL draft taking place at nearby Union Station. Hosting the eponymous event dubbed “Kelce Jam,” the player irked many a fan with his viewed mistreatment of the trophy.
Footage from on stage captured the moment the tight end cracked open a beer and held aloft the prized Lombardi as a beer luge as he proceeded to chug the beverage to the delight of onlookers. No sooner had he completed the drink did he slam the can down onto the stage followed by an unexpected spiking of the trophy deemed, “Peak Travis.”

While many among the reported 19,000 attendees could be heard cheering, those not caught up in the moment voiced their disapproval of the move going so far as to suggest that the player’s actions may have cursed the team ahead of next season.
“I’m at the point where I can’t stand him now. Very disrespectful here,” one person wrote as another asked, “Tell me that was not the real trophy?????”
“Love my [Chiefs] and love Kelce but this shows more disrespect than what Brady did…[shaking my head],” someone added, referencing retired quarterback Tom Brady’s decision to toss the trophy from one boat to another following the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31-9 victory over the Chiefs at Super Bowl LV.

It was later reported by The Kansas City Star that the trophy used during Kelce’s on-stage celebration was in fact a replica and the stunt was just one of the highlights of the evening that included a contest, an aerial drone show and celebrity guests.
Featured were Rick Ross, Loud Luxury, Tech N9ne and Machine Gun Kelly, the latter who was joined on stage by Kelce for a performance of the Beastie Boys’ “Fight for Your Right.”

As for the fallout, what did Kelce expect given that Tom Brady, the GOAT, caught flak for mishandling the Lombardi Trophy after winning the 2020 Super Bowl while playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers — Brady added to his legendary status as the city celebrated with a boat parade, tossing the actual Lombardi Trophy from one boat to another after imbibing a little excessively in the day’s celebration.
Altogether, the tone was markedly different than Kelce’s emotional conversation with his brother Jason Kelce of the Philadelphia Eagles after they were the first siblings to face off at a Super Bowl.
On an episode of their podcast “New Heights with Jason & Travis Kelce” the Wednesday after the championship, Jason had said, “The moment I saw mom is when I got really emotional because, man, it was so awesome.”

“She was the heavyweight champ, man,” a tearful Travis added. “She was on top of it, and she shined the whole time, man, and that was the coolest part. Mom, you absolutely killed it. Dad, you’ve been killin’ it.”
