Susan Collins all but threatens to wear a bikini on Senate floor after dress code debacle

U.S. Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) all but threatened to “wear a bikini” on the floor of the Senate on Monday in criticism of Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s decision to do away with a dress code for its members — others entering the chamber are still required to comply with the dress code that calls for coats and ties for men, and business attire for women.

The decision allows cognitively challenged Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) to wear his signature hoodie and shorts on the Senate floor without violating the dress code — former Trump aide Stephen Miller argued that Fetterman has “turned the Senate into a coddling daycare for an emotionally stunted man-child with severely arrested development.”

Collins’ remark came as the 70-year-old senator criticized Schumer’s decision.

“Obviously, I’m not going to wear a bikini,” the liberal Republican said, according to the Washington Examiner. “But the fact is, as I understand it, I could!”

“But of all the issues that we have to deal with right now, ranging from the possibility of the government shutting down to what we do about Ukraine, we are talking about the Senate dress code?” Collins added. “That’s extraordinary to me.”

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), who just turned 90, was even more critical of the decision.

“I don’t tend to change anything. I expect to do the Senate the same way it’s been done for 20, 40 years with the dress code,” Grassley said. “What has been suggested stinks. It is unprecedented, and if you can’t count on the majority leader of the United States Senate to uphold the decorum of the United States Senate, who can you count on?”

In a somewhat related matter, Fetterman obsessed over Hunter Biden’s “ding-a-ling pics” in response to criticism from U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.)

“The Senate no longer enforcing a dress code for Senators to appease Fetterman is disgraceful,” Greene tweeted. “Dress code is one of society’s standards that set etiquette and respect for our institutions. Stop lowering the bar!”
