Far-left actress/activist Susan Sarandon shared on Twitter stunning video footage out of Oakland, Calif., depicting massive homeless encampments along the road.
The dilapidated, makeshift shelters and squalor seen in the video resemble some third-world country more than they do the United States of America, and it’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to homelessness in the state of California, where hundreds of millions of dollars is being spent yearly to address the problem.
Democrats in the state who are opting more and more to offer homeless people guaranteed incomes have yet to come to terms with the notion that the more you subsidize something, the more of it you get. The homeless population in LA County is estimated to be as high as 69,000 people.

Sarandon offered no commentary, but the irony here is that as an apparent socialist — the actress was an ardent Bernie Sanders supporter — she doesn’t grasp what Winston Churchill said many years ago.
”Socialism is the philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy. Its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery,” Churchill declared.
And that’s what’s playing out in California streets — equal misery.
As for Oakland, an audit released last week showed that the city spent nearly $69 million on affordable housing, resulting in “mixed results.”
That being a likely understatement because Oakland failed to track how many participants ended up in permanent housing and has “no way of knowing whether its sole goal for the homeless — permanent housing placement — was accomplished,” Fox News reported.
A shocking video from downtown Los Angeles was shared over the weekend by conservative Benny Johnson. The human misery depicted resembles the slums of a third-world country, the end result of failed progressive policies that have led to homelessness, drug addiction, and rampant crime.
It’s not clear what Sarandon hoped to accomplish by sharing the video, but suffice it to say she probably failed at whatever her goal was based on social media reactions.
Here’s a quick sampling of responses from Twitter:
I don’t think this makes the point you think it does. You’ve voted for the same policies over and over and you expect a different outcome.

Exactly what I wanted to say to her! What will it take for those people to wake up?!

Wondering if this means you realize the party and policies you’ve supported have failed? Is that the purpose behind this?

It’s amazing that California has managed to get so many people to embrace an active, outdoor lifestyle that minimizes energy use.

Homelessness will never end because governments will not take a hard line on these people. Honestly, in what world should people be allowed to set up a tent on the side of a road and that is their home?
