Swalwell up against troubling, self-created obstacles in quest to replace Gavin Newsom

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) will have to overcome the self-created obstacles of his own past if he hopes to become California’s next governor and is now being dogged by allegations of sexual misconduct.

The trash-talking congressman is one of several Democrats vying for a shot to replace Gavin Newsom, with the likely winner to be determined in the upcoming state gubernatorial primary and his opponents are seizing on the unsubstantiated claims that Swalwell made unwelcome sexual advances to women working in his office.

Gen-Z for Change executive director Cheyenne Hunt announced that she was working with multiple alleged victims of the notoriously horny congressman, although she has yet to provide evidence to back up her claims.

“The Democratic candidate currently leading in the California governor’s race has a known history of being predatory towards women,” she said in a March social media post.

Swalwell has been accused of going on the lam to dodge questions about the allegations, which, if true, could inflict a severe blow to his dreams of ruling in Sacramento.

“I’m very disappointed in Eric Swalwell. As more and more women come forward with sexual harassment allegations, Swalwell skipped town to avoid facing tough questions about these allegations,” former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, who is one of the embattled lawmaker’s rivals said in a Wednesday post to X.

“If you want to be Governor, you can’t hide when the questions get tough. But this is an ongoing pattern for Eric Swalwell. He skipped today’s forum to avoid questions from reporters for the same reason he skipped 68% of his votes in Congress since announcing his run for Governor,” Villaraigosa added.

Another Democrat rival, combustible former congresswoman Katie Porter, called the allegations against her ex-colleague “troubling” and said she’s committed to supporting his accusers, whose names have not yet been publicly revealed.

“It is those women’s stories to tell when they are ready, and I hope that they feel safe and supported if they choose to do so,” she told CNN on Tuesday. “I believe women. I think that has to be the starting place here. So when those women speak up, I will be there, helping to amplify their truths.”

Swalwell’s campaign called Villaraigosa’s claims “false” and “absurd” in a statement to Fox News Digital.

“Congressman Swalwell spoke to more than 1,000 town hall attendees for nearly 90 minutes Tuesday in Sacramento,” campaign spox Micah Beasley said. “Afterward, he met with members of the media to answer their questions.”

Swalwell also reportedly called off a scheduled Thursday town hall in Palm Desert, with his representative telling KRON that he was “sick and had to cancel the event.”

Villaraigosa pounced, writing, “Day 2 of @ericswalwell hiding from voters and reporters. That’s not leadership — that’s someone with something to hide.”

On Thursday, the salty Swalwell deployed the f-bomb to distract from his mounting scandal issues.

Democrat operative Bhavik Lathia warned that the allegations against Swalwell should be taken seriously.

“Hey, I just got off the phone with a trusted friend. This is real. Take it seriously. Eric Swallwell cannot be our nominee. There is going to be a lot more coming out soon. I can’t say more right now, but stay tuned,” Lathia said in a Monday social media post.

The sexual misconduct allegations about Swalwell come as an old indiscretion has also come back to haunt him, with it being reported that Kash Patel’s FBI is reportedly pushing for the release of investigative files related to the agency’s probe of his past romantic relationship with female Chinese spy Christine Fang, aka Fang Fang, which now could be the least of his worries.
