The president of one of the largest teachers’ unions in the United States, Randi Weingarten, may have slept through her history classes. The evidence? A tweet in which she desperately tried to dunk on Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, but only ended up exposing her own historical ignorance.
She retweeted Democrat pundit Ron Filipkowski, who referred to DeSantis as “Emperor” and trashed the governor for his statements on the American revolution.
“Emperor Desantis gives his absurdly false version of how he expects history to be taught: ‘It was the American Revolution that caused people to question slavery. No one had questioned it before we decided as Americans that we are endowed by our creator with unalienable rights,'” Filipkowski tweeted.
Evidently, this message caused Weingarten to put on her thinking cap and make a tweet of her own. Unfortunately, that thinking cap may have been on backward.
Or inside out.
The American Revolution was about leaving Britain. If America’s founders questioned slavery there would not have been the heinous “3/5 compromise “ in the US Constitution, which was drafted and enacted AFTER the American Revolution. This is basic history… https://t.co/QkwBFF7CkX

“The American Revolution was about leaving Britain. This is basic history…,” she wrote, much to the chagrin of people who actually learned something in their high school history classes.
Weingarten somehow had the foresight to limit the replies to her tweet, but that didn’t stop people from trying to educate her anyway:
Love how she won’t allow people to comment on her “take” on history. Ladies and gentleman, this is the woman leading a union for the people who teach your children. #femocrat #DemocratsAreDestroyingAmerica https://t.co/jaPeHBwfql pic.twitter.com/WIv0I27RCA

Just to be clear, this woman who has a massive influence on American education doesn’t know “basic history” well enough to know the 3/5ths compromise was proposed by northern delegates to keep southern states from bolstering the institution of slavery. https://t.co/HEuw293zJa

This lady is a moron. The reason for the compromise is that Northerners were opposed to slavery. Better hope she is not teaching your kids history. https://t.co/HWhHJh13En

“Most of those who supported both of the three-fifths clauses were opposed to slavery, and most believed that antislavery politics would ultimately be strengthened by the new Constitution.”

The 3/5 compromise was aimed at preventing southern Democrat slave holders from counting slaves at full value for congressional representation which would have given them the ability to block any effort at abolition.

If America’s leaders didn’t question the idea of slavery
Wouldn’t it have just been a 5/5 agreement?

The head of the largest teachers union doesn’t understand that the 3/5ths compromise was a punishment for slave states and incentive to get them to abolish slavery. https://t.co/ZG74KaZZss pic.twitter.com/CHzXX9Wk3Z
