Previews of an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity included Texas Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R) take on Supreme Court consideration as well as his admiration for the president’s “cast iron” attribute.
More than a decade after a fierce rivalry, the Lone Star State lawmaker and President Donald Trump have proven that primary politics can be left in the past. Ahead of its premiere, clips of a sit down with Hannity found Cruz candidly remarking how he would have felt about a nomination to the high court while also complementing the chief executive’s “cast iron balls.”
In one clip from the “Hang Out with Sean Hannity” podcast, the host began of Trump, “When he goes hard in the paint, I mean, he will bludgeon opponents.”
“He doesn’t have a medium speed,” began the senator’s response before he expressed, “My favorite attribute about Donald Trump is the guy has cast iron balls. He just does, at a level that there’s no parallel in history.”

“And there’s so many Republicans — including you and me — that are just frustrated by these weak, lily-livered Republicans that are scared of a fight, that if anyone says ‘boo’ to them, they run in the other direction,” continued Cruz. “And nothing scares Trump.”
Lamenting some of the tangents the president takes, the lawmaker added, “Look, at times, I would urge, you know, a little more discipline and focus. Like, focus on the task, but the fearlessness, the energy, that is phenomenal.”
Timed to coincide with the release of Cruz’s new book, “Going Further: The Incomparable Clarence Thomas,” the interview also addressed the potential of the onetime clerk of then-Chief Justice William Rehnquist to have his own spot on the bench.
Between that experience and tenure as solicitor general of Texas arguing before the court, the senator said of his views of the daily experience of a justice, “It is a very solitary lifestyle.”
Despite enjoying reading and writing, Cruz told Hannity, “I like people.”
“I like being in the fight with people,” he went on before addressing a negative outlook if Trump had chosen him for one of the three nomination opportunities from the first administration. “I think if the president had nominated me to the court, I would have been confirmed, and the image that I kept hearing was the day after I was confirmed, walking into my chambers, and the door closing, and the sound I kept hearing was a jail cell clanging shut.”

Earlier this year, Trump joked about a possible future nomination for Cruz should a seat open before his second term ends, suggesting the senator would get unanimous approval from Congress as all Republicans and Democrats would vote in favor because “they wanna get him out of there, he is such a pain in the a**, but he’s so good and so talented.”
