Ted Cruz likens WHCD award for ‘capturing Biden’s spirit’ to preening to be ‘best propagandist’ for WH

Corporate media figures and elitists took a break from their regular routine of propping up the left to do the same in formal wear Saturday, complete with self-aggrandizing awards roasted online as “best propagandist for the White House.”

The annual White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) Dinner is perhaps the most honest event in the swamp that is Washington, D.C. as celebrities and politicians join “journalists” who’ve shirked off pretense of inherent bias.

As a testament to the current state of reporting, the Aldo Beckman Award for overall excellence in White House coverage was bestowed upon the Washington Post’s Matt Viser not for dispelling the spin pumped out by the administration, but for bolstering it as he “captured the spirit of Joe Biden.”

ABC News’ Karen Travers presented the award, first started in 1981, and explained how the judges complimented Viser’s work that “went beyond the humdrum of covering the managed events of the presidency,” and that he “captured the spirit of Joe Biden, particularly with stories about the president’s brother and how his Catholic faith influenced his strategic vision of the office.”

Among those who called out the absurdity of the award was Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (R) who reacted, “When corporate media ‘journalists’ preen for being awarded ‘best propagandist for the White House’…they are not journalists.”

Others snarked of the proceeding that it was the “unachievement awards” and wondered if the presentation had been a part of the evening where self-deprecating jokes are shared.

To Cruz’s point, even more, telling was the content of Viser’s articles that had won him the award. The WHCA pointed to several articles from 2022, including one from May about President Joe Biden’s brother, James Biden, that they described by stating, “His sourcing on the James Biden story was unusual, plumbing emails from Hunter Biden’s laptop to illuminate the relationship of the two brothers, and winning a rare interview with James Biden.”

That’s right. The WHCA proudly awarded a reporter for perusing the contents of Hunter Biden’s infamous laptop from hell, the very same laptop they suppressed covering before the 2020 presidential election, and, out of all the suspicious evidence contained within that has led to serious allegations against the Biden family, the takeaway was a highlight on their relationship.

Unsurprisingly, the other awards given were equally sycophantic to the overall agenda of the Biden administration including Reuters coverage of the president’s climate initiatives and CNN’s reporting on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to the White House in December 2022. Of course, there was also an award bestowed on Politico for leaking the Supreme Court decision that led to the overturning of Roe v. Wade that the Democrats campaigned on from the beginning of May all the way through to the midterm elections.
