Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) was blunt on his “Verdict” podcast Thursday, describing the Democrats’ demographic that wants to have their student loans forgiven as “sort of young unemployed slackers smoking bongs” which the media immediately seized upon.
Cruz’s comments followed the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down President Biden’s plan to forgive student loans, wiping away debt for potential leftist voters. It was a 6-3 decision, negating Biden’s plot to give student loan borrowers up to $20,000 in debt relief.
“That’s the sort of people who during COVID, they wanted to pay not to work. Well, if you’re not working, it’s hard to pay your student loans, and suddenly Democrats have told a bunch of 23-year-olds, ‘You don’t gotta work, man. That’d be mean to make you work,’” the Texas conservative pointed out.
“There’s a second group, which is the constituencies, which is the universities, and the universities have become entrenched pits of Marxism,” Cruz noted.

Biden wasted no time in trying to circumvent the ruling by SCOTUS. He also suggested using adversity scoring which doesn’t go off merit, but socioeconomic traits instead.
The Washington Examiner reported, “Biden launched another effort shortly after the Supreme Court ruling to forgive some federal student loan debt using authority from the Higher Education Act of 1965 to create debt forgiveness regulation. The law allows for the provision of government-backed student loans, and it states the Education Department has the power to ‘compromise, waive or release loans.'”
“About 1 in 5 Americans have student loans, according to a Nerdwallet analysis using data from the U.S. Census Bureau. Per the Education Data Initiative, most borrowers are 25 to 34 years old, and federal borrowers in this age range owe an average debt of $33,570,” the media outlet continued.
As someone who paid off $237,000 in student loans by myself and sacrificed my quality of life for YEARS, I appreciate today’s Supreme Court ruling

Cruz made a point that many believe is true, contending that Biden is pushing his student loan plan to “get [young people] to go vote Democrat.”
The Texan went on to list those that student loan forgiveness would also hurt which included Americans who didn’t get a college degree, truck drivers, steel workers, and union members. In a press release last year, Cruz stated that every taxpayer will pay “an average of $2,100” under Biden’s student loan debt cancellation plan.
The senator paid off his own mountain of student debt. It took him “almost two decades” to do so. He stated that the Biden administration was negatively affecting “everyone who did get a college degree who actually saved up and paid for their college degree.”
“Joe Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan was a fundamental assault on the limitations of the power of the president & the requirement that it is Congress that appropriates money,” Cruz also tweeted Thursday. “Yet, he is reacting to anyone who would hold him to account with disdain.”

When the initial ruling by the Supreme Court came down, Cruz commented, “The Supreme Court once again remained true to the Constitution by blocking Biden’s student debt transfer. This decision by the President wouldn’t have ‘eliminated’ student debt—instead, it would have transferred it to another American who had already paid off their loans, or opted out of attending college. Biden knew this was not legal. This was nothing more than a messaging ploy to give him a cheap political win before midterms.”

Cruz also tweeted, “Joe Biden & the Democrats wanted to forgive student loans because they thought they could buy young people’s votes. It was designed to be a massive wealth transfer.”
