One teen was killed, and two others were injured during a shooting last Wednesday at a school bus stop in the Bronx.
The New York Police Department (NYPD) press office said that their officers responded to a 911 call pertaining to the shooting of several individuals at a Bronx school bus stop, according to Norwood News.
“Upon arrival, officers observed a 16-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the back, a 15-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the right leg, and a 13-year-old female with a gunshot wound to the right leg,” the press office noted.
The office added that the victims were taken to a hospital, where the 16-year-old was pronounced dead, and the other two managed to make it into stable condition.

A witness told Norwood News that the bus stop shooting was rare.
“There’s always a lot of young kids gathered around here waiting for the bus after school, but nothing violent,” they said. “Like, I know there’s fights and stuff like that, but something like that around here is rare, let’s be honest. You don’t hear about a shoot-out in this area often.”
The deceased was eventually identified as Christopher Redding, a John F. Kennedy High School football star.
According to a GoFundMe fundraiser established on behalf of Redding’s family, he’d been “defending his friends who were being targeted by a group of individuals” when he lost his life.
“His last act on earth was one of courage and selflessness, protecting those he cared about,” the GoFundMe reads.
“The loss of Christopher has deeply affected his family, his teammates, and the entire community. He is survived by his mother, Shampagne Christian, his father, Bryan Corley, and his siblings, who are now facing unimaginable grief and hardship,” it continues.

An unnamed teenager was arrested for the shooting on Saturday, which was Valentine’s Day. Three other suspects remain on the loose.
The one arrested on Saturday “was charged with murder, two counts of attempted murder, manslaughter and two counts of assault, and three counts of criminal possession of a weapon (a loaded firearm),” according to Norwood News.
Local officials, all Democrats, attributed the shooting to gun violence.
“This devastating incident comes amid a troubling period of gun violence across our borough, leaving too many of our families and community members feeling unsafe in their own neighborhoods,” Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson said in a social media statement.
“This tragedy is another painful reminder of the work that must continue to rid our communities of guns, the urgency of more recreational and youth-based programs, and the need for ongoing community engagement,” she added.
City Council Member Eric Dinowitz also pointed to the guns.
“Guns in the hands of high school students should never be the reality, and we must put an end to this senseless violence,” he said in a statement.
Last week, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch announced that beginning in the spring, 200 officers will be added to the Bronx patrol.
“For too long, the Bronx has experienced more crime per capita than any other borough, while operating under a structure that has not kept pace with demands placed on it,” she said, according to CBS News.
Critics have been directing their anger about the increasing crime at leftist NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani:
While @NYCMayor is busy finding the perfect grain filter for his next TikTok, the Bronx is turning into a war zone.

On the same day that Redding was shot and killed, two other teens were reportedly “slashed/stabbed” nearby.
