A Los Angeles mother is furious that the teen who almost killed her and her 10-month-old baby has been sentenced to a paltry five months in a “juvenile probation camp.”
Last August, a 16-year-old Los Angeles teen high off drugs drove straight into the mother, identified only as Rachel, as she was pushing a stroller containing her 10-month-old child. Both miraculously survived without any serious injuries.
The teen then drove off in an attempted hit-and-run.

“Investigators say the 16-year-old driver was under the influence of drugs and was driving a rental car. It’s unknown how he got possession of the rental car,” station KABC reported at the time.
“LAPD said the driver was released to his parents because he’s underage and since he is a juvenile, the alleged DUI crash is not considered a violent crime. He is expected to be in court in October.”
Rachel reportedly lived in fear for seven months until the teen “was taken into custody on a bench warrant after skipping court,” according to Fox News.
Months later, the teen has since been sentenced to a paltry five months in a “juvenile probation camp” by LA County District Attorney George Gascón, a Democrat known for being lenient to criminals.

Rachel is reportedly irate and says that she’ll “continue to live in fear after his short sentence is complete,” as reported by Fox News.
“George Gascón doesn’t value my life or the life of my child, or any other victim out there and would rather reward the monsters like [the juvenile suspect] by demonstrating to them that their actions have no consequences,” a victim’s impact statement from Rachel reportedly reads.
“DA Gascón is telling him and every other thug in LA County that it doesn’t matter if you try to murder people. Why are Gascón’s policies prioritizing the livelihood of rotten monsters when my child, my baby, who is incapable of protecting himself, is left to fend for himself, and is essentially being told his life doesn’t matter?”

As far as Rachel is concerned, she believes the teen tried to kill her and her child.
“He tried to murder two innocent pedestrians. Murder. And we have video evidence. My child would be dead if I hadn’t been there to protect him,” the victim’s impact statement continues.
She suggested in the statement that the teen purposefully turned his car toward her and her child.
“As the car approached me and my child, I stopped walking and moved the stroller and myself up against a building on the right side of the road to ensure that we gave the reckless driver plenty of room to pass. As the car got dangerously close to us, [the juvenile suspect] turned the wheels in our direction and accelerated as he aimed to kill us,” the impact statement reads.
To make matters worse, thanks to Gascón, the teen’s record will “be wiped clean when he turns 18,” according to Rachel.
“I have never been more surprised or disappointed, and, in fact, I have never felt so victimized as I have by the system and current policies of LA’s DA, George Gascón. My heart breaks when I think about all of the other victims out there, less fortunate than me, whose murderers are getting lenient sentences and being released from prison before their sentences are complete,” her statement continued.
Gascón reportedly believes the sentence is “appropriate.”
“Fortunately, the baby was uninjured, and the mother received a laceration to her elbow,” his office said in a statement to Fox News, essentially suggesting that because the mother and her baby lived, the teen deserves to be treated with kid gloves.
Not that there would have been much of a difference in the sentence had the teen actually murdered the pair. Gascón recently tried reducing the potential sentencing enhancements for a mother accused of assaulting, torturing, and killing her 4-year-old daughter in August of 2020.
A mother charged with torturing & murdering her 4-year-old child had two strikes (violent/serious felonies) on her record already.
LA DA @GeorgeGascon wanted to remove her strikes & treat her as a first time offender.

“Akira Keyshell Smith, 36, is facing charges for murder, assault on a child, and torture in the death of Eternity Smith. Smith has two previous felony strikes on her record after being convicted of inflicting corporal injury to a spouse in 2014 and assault with a deadly weapon in a separate incident in September 2016. If Smith is convicted of a third felony for allegedly murdering her daughter, the third strike would mandate a 25-year minimum sentence,” according to Fox News.
Yet according to Gascón’s own colleagues, he tried to get Smith’s previous two strikes removed so that she’d be spared an especially long sentence if convicted.
“On Dec 15, 2020, at a Preliminary Hearing Setting, I refused to remove the strikes. Three days later, George Gascón called me ‘unfit’ and ‘delusional’ and said I was going to be disciplined. The public now can see all the evidence presented at the preliminary hearing and can [make their] own decision,” Deputy District Attorney Jon Hatami said to Fox News.
Gascón is currently facing a recall campaign.
“George Gascon’s far-left policies where he does not want to go after violent and serious offenders and then let them go before they serve their sentence is part of the reason I’m running.” @NathanHochmanAG on the LA DA recall.@ShaunKraisman
