Reports of “Sharia patrols” protesting the sale of pork and alcohol in a red state drew mixed reactions as some saw cause for concern and others reminded, “Texas isn’t Minnesota.”
From no-go zones in Europe to Democratic Party candidate boycotts in America, Islamists in Muslim communities have more than merely thrown their weight around when exporting their culture. Now, amid heightened concerns about alleged Sharia developments across the Lone Star State, a radical imam is raising eyebrows in Texas for commencing a pressure campaign against Muslim-owned stores selling forbidden goods.
“Toward the end of this month, we’re kicking off a national protesting and demonstrations campaign against all Muslim businesses that have haram in their store,” Houston area Imam F. Qasim ibn Ali Khan could be heard saying in a video shared by RAIR Foundation editor-in-chief Amy Mekelburg as she begged the question, “Where are Texas leaders? What starts in Houston won’t stay in Houston.”
Her report highlighted that the imam represents the Nation of Islam mosque Masjid At-Tawhid and that his dyed beard was indicative of his adherence to Sharia as the practice is “rooted in hadith instructing Muslims to distinguish themselves from non-believers,” often “adopted by hardline preachers and militant figures.”

Within the videos, the religious leader could be seen confronting Muslim-owned businesses about their sale of alcohol, lottery tickets, and pork, warning that a failure to change course on that front would result in ongoing protests outside their establishments.
Emphasizing the imam’s own message that, “We should love what Allah loves, and hate what Allah hates,” Mekelburg reminded, “In Islamic texts, that goes beyond products — it targets people.”
Recently, it was reported that congressional hopeful Valentina Gomez, seeking to represent the 31st Congressional District in Texas, had begun receiving death threats after posting a video of herself taking a flamethrower to a Quran and arguing that an Islamist foothold in the state would mean, “Your daughters will be raped and your sons beheaded unless we stop Islam once and for all.”
Earlier this year, Mekelburg pointed out $13 million worth of state and federal funds that were doled out to mosques and groups “openly aligned with terrorist groups and regimes — including the Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas, Jamaat-e-Islami, and even the Iranian regime.”

Similarly, it was reported that an imam in the Dallas area had called for his peers to side with Iran after President Donald Trump ordered the strike against their nuclear program, as his East Plano Islamic Center was under investigation for alleged plans to develop a Muslim community.
Despite cause for concern, many found humor in the effort, reminding barbecue had a culture unto itself and, “You might talk a few Americans into some questionable things, but giving up bacon and beer are not among those things.”
I hope Gov Abbott intervenes. They can have their house of worship according to the US Constitution but, they cannot try to force Americans to assimilate to their beliefs.
