Texas mom with alleged ‘postpartum depression’ stabs husband, two young children

A Texas mom accused of stabbing her own children was suffering from postpartum depression, according to her husband, who was also attacked.

Holly Leeann Flores, 37, was charged on several counts of attempted murder after going on a stabbing spree in her home in Northlake, about 30 miles from Fort Worth.

Flores’ husband, Justin Hommel, 34, was reportedly stabbed in the head and called 911 during the attack. Their 3-year-old daughter and 10-month-old son were also injured.

Hommel was reportedly heard asking his wife if this was a “postpartum thing” while on the phone with 911, according to WFAA.

In an interview with police, Hommel said his wife had been struggling with postpartum depression and had been acting strangely, prompting him to sleep on the couch, WFAA reported.

Hommel woke around 1 a.m. before the attack to find his wife in his children’s bedroom lighting a candle and spotted a kitchen knife on the dresser that “freaked him out,” but he allegedly went back to sleep after she locked him out of the room, according to the affidavit.

Later, he awoke to the sounds of his children crying and began knocking on the door; when Flores opened the door, she allegedly attacked him with the knife.

Hommel was able to wrestle the knife away but was stabbed in the head, and the children also suffered multiple stab wounds to their chests.

Police had previously responded to five other calls from their home since March over “welfare concerns and overdoses,” WFAA reported.

Thankfully, all three victims survived. Flores was arrested and faces 2 counts of attempted capital murder and one count of aggravated assault.
