An opportunistic Texas sheriff apprehended a truckload of illegal aliens thanks to GPS tracking and a clever ruse leading them to believe he was the smuggler.
While President Joe Biden’s administration has only recently pivoted to appear to take the border crisis seriously, law enforcement agents on the front lines have continued to operate with available resources to combat the never-ending flood of illegals. On Thursday, according to an exclusive report from the Daily Mail, that included Terrell County Sheriff Thaddeus Cleveland role-playing to dupe seven into turning themselves in to the authorities.
In a video shared by the outlet, the retired Border Patrol agent could be heard speaking in Spanish reportedly telling the group obscured by darkness, “Hurry, hurry, get in. Get in. Everyone, get in.”
“I’m the smuggler; everything is fine,” added Cleveland as the illegals climbed into the back of a pickup truck.
One of the seven illegal aliens was said to resist the apprehension leading to a Border Patrol agent informing the man, “If you move, I’ll shoot. Do you understand?”
According to Cleveland, the smuggler that the group was meant to meet had been arrested moments earlier. After trekking across the border to a rendezvous point, the GPS location of the illegals had been sent to the smuggler, ultimately providing law enforcement with the precise location to collect them.
Sunday, Cleveland had posted images of the apprehension on X and wrote, “Illegal alien smuggling load apprehended by the Terrell County Sheriff’s Office and Agents from the Sanderson Border Patrol Station at 0400 this morning.”

“We get drivers from all over, Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth,” the sheriff told the Mail of one of the clues used to identify smugglers in the border county. “If someone from Houston is in Sanderson, it’s because they’re here to drive illegal aliens somewhere.”
“It’s something we do as often as we can,” he added of the trick to apprehend the illegals. “We want to get the smuggler, but we also want to get the migrants. Even though most of them are just coming here to work, we have to enforce our laws.”
To his point, the one woman in the group had pleaded to be released, “She cried and said she just came to the US to work. She said she had a baby back home in Mexico and was just trying to provide for it.”
The report from the Daily Mail came the same day that the House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement reported that nearly all illegal aliens released into the country have been allowed to stay under Biden’s watch.
“New data and information obtained by the Committee…reveal that the Biden Administration has failed to remove, through immigrations court removal proceedings, over 99 percent of those illegal aliens who have been released into the country under President Joe Biden,” the 61-page report read in part. “This information contradicts the assertions of the Administration, and the statements of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, that the southwest border is closed and illegal aliens are removed from the country quickly.”
It report further decried statements from Mayorkas as being “divorced from the border reality,” and not that despite his “claims that aliens encountered at the border are, in fact, asylum seekers, the Biden Administration has placed only a fraction of illegal aliens into expedited removal to be screened for asylum eligibility. In fact, of the more than 2.1 million illegal aliens released by DHS from January 20, 2021, through March 31, 2023, only 197,531 illegal aliens were placed in expedited removal and claimed a fear of persecution, with upward of 2 million aliens being released or placed directly in removal proceedings without first having established that they even feared persecution.”
Though most of the illegals encountered were said to be Mexican laborers as opposed to the masses infiltrating the country from Venezuela, Columbia, Nicaragua, China, Afghanistan and Ukraine, Cleveland reported a nearly 400 percent increase in smuggling over the last two years.
