Texas student arrested after mocking Charlie Kirk’s death at vigil

A Texas Tech University student was arrested after shocking behavior caught on camera mocking the murder of Charlie Kirk.

The student, identified in multiple reports as 18-year-old Camryn Giselle Booker, was seen in a viral video seeming to celebrate Kirk’s assassination,  jumping up and down and chanting, “F*** y’all homie dead, he got shot in the head,” as mourners gathered for a vigil in Lubbock, Texas.

After confrontations with those gathering for a vigil for the slain founder of Turning Point USA, Booker was arrested. The video clip, shared on social media, caught the attention of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who wrote in a post on X: “This is what happened to the person who was mocking Charlie Kirk’s assassination at Texas Tech,”  adding, “FAFO.”

Videos of the incident showed Booker celebrating Kirk’s death and taunting others who had gathered with American flags and holding candles, engaging in confrontations with several people

A man wearing a Make America Great Again hat noted how hateful the student was being, and she confronted him in one clip that highlighted the progression of aggression and its consequences for the young woman.

“Why are you being so hateful?” the MAGA hat-wearing man asked Booker, who came up to him, filming with her phone, and asked the same question.

“You walked up to me. I don’t want this. I said ‘Rest in peace,'” he told her.

“OK, and I can do this too,” Booker could be heard saying as the man replied, “I want to be left alone.”

“I’m not being emotional, ma’am. Don’t tell me what I am and what I’m not,” Booker shouted at one woman. “You could get out of my face ’cause I can tell you what you are, but you won’t like it.”

“I’m not being aggressive,” she continued, before claiming she was being targeted because of race. “My voice is very calm. You’re calling me aggressive because I’m a black woman.”

“The situation then escalated when Booker allegedly shoved several people, including an elderly veteran and a young mother with her child, which prompted a physical altercation that spread into the street,” the Daily Mail reported.

“Booker was then taken into custody and was charged with battery, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest, and was cited for assault,” the outlet noted, adding that the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office confirmed she was released the following day on a $200 bond.

Booker is facing charges of assault, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, September 15. She is also feeling the consequences of her actions on her academic career as Texas Tech reportedly expelled her, saying her actions are a violation of the school’s code of conduct and are “incompatible with our values of respect and safety.”

“Definitely picked the wrong school to taunt the death of Charlie Kirk,” Gov. Abbott wrote on X. “Thanks Texas Tech.”
