President Donald J. Trump took to Truth Social Friday to announce that he’s authorizing documents to allow farmers and ranchers to process their own food.
The president said his action targets what he calls a ‘nasty Monopoly’ of Big Processors — 85% of U.S. beef processing is reportedly controlled by four companies: Tyson Foods, Cargill, JBS USA, and National Beef Packing Co.
“Ranchers and Farmers have always been a number one priority for me. They work very hard, are smart, efficient, and immaculately CLEAN, but for years I have heard that they have had a tremendous problem with the Big Processors, who many say are a nasty Monopoly,” Trump wrote. “There are, essentially, 4 of them, a very non competitive number, and they make life miserable for our wonderful Farmers and Ranchers, and I can’t let that happen, can I?”

“So, in order to break this powerful monopoly, with much of its ownership based outside of the U.S., I am authorizing legal documents to be drawn in order to allow Farmers and Ranchers to be given the right to PROCESS THEIR OWN FOOD. This should move quickly,” the president continued.
Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins responded in a social media post to say there will be some “big announcements starting Monday.”
“We are on it Mr. President! Our great AMERICAN ranchers produce the highest-quality, most incredible beef in the world AND it is a matter of national security that we be able to feed and fuel ourselves,” she declared, before adding:

The announcement comes after Trump was hit with criticism for rolling out a plan to import 300,000 metric tons of tariff-free foreign ground beef over 90 days, saying these imported products would be sold at 25 percent below market price.
Conservative media personality Glenn Beck encouraged Trump to take on the meat processing industry during an interview earlier this week.

As a cattle owner concerned about humane treatment before and during processing, I can promise this will, in most cases, also mean better treatment of the animals. And when you are kinder to the animals, they are less stressed, which makes for better-tasting meat. So many wins!🇺🇸
