In the wake of the barbaric attack on Israel by the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas and subsequent attacks on U.S. troops stationed in the Middle East by Iranian-backed Islamic extremist groups, there is growing concern about a potential terrorist attack in the United States.
Concerns are heightened given the unprecedented invasion of foreign nationals on our southern border, where millions upon millions of illegal immigrants have crossed since President Biden took office, including thousands of “special interest aliens” from mostly Middle Eastern countries. In FY 2023, 169 terrorist suspects were encountered on the southern border — more than the previous 6 years combined.
But the wide open border is producing another dangerous factor — deploying air marshals to the border and away from their role of monitoring passengers on flights for potential threats.
With a record-setting 30 million Americans expected to head to the airport this Thanksgiving holiday, according to Fox News, Sonya LaBosco, director of the Air Marshal National Council, told the network that travelers in the U.S. are being left “unsafe.”
“We are not flying right now. We just received an email last week that resources are depleted as far as our flying air marshals,” LaBosco said this week. “We are ushering in illegal immigrants on the border and leaving the traveling public unsafe.”
According to LaBosco, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and its subsidiary, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), are to blame, beginning with TSA administrator David Pekoske.

Citing a letter Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) sent to Pekoske, LaBosco said air marshals deployed in the border region are “passing out water” and are “not doing law enforcement duties.”
“I write regarding the Transportation Security Administration’s (“TSA”) deployment of hundreds of air marshals in the Federal Air Marshal Service (“FAMS”) to the southern border to assist U.S. Customs and Border Protection (“CBP”) in administering aid to illegal aliens,” Cruz wrote. “It is concerning that the administration has prioritized ushering illegal immigrants into the country over protecting the lives and safety of the traveling public.”
“Today, many miles below the skies that the air marshals are charged to protect, the situation at the U.S.-Mexico border has devolved into chaos. Since President Biden took office, CBP officials have encountered over 6.2 million illegal aliens along the southern border,” the GOP senator added. “That figure is in addition to the more than 1.6 million illegal alien ‘gotaways’ who have successfully crossed the southern border undetected, for a total of more than 7.8 million illegal crossings. Moreover, more than 150 individuals on the FBI terror watch list have been apprehended at the southern border since the beginning of the current fiscal year.”
Fox News reported a year ago of a “mutiny” from air marshals who were initially deployed to the border on a voluntary basis before the Biden administration made it mandatory.
“Secretary Mayorkas has said more than once that the border is secure, so he is not concerned with that. But we all know that the border is not secure,” LaBosco told Fox News. “He will not call this a crisis. But now, not only is the border destabilized, our aviation is destabilized as well.”
She also shared a troubling priority for this administration, claiming that people who flew into the DC area around Jan. 6 were put on a “domestic terrorist list” and have marshals assigned to monitor their travels — regardless of whether they were at the U.S. Capitol protest or not.
“Clearly…we’re not flying right now. The only missions that we’re doing are ‘Quiet Skies’ missions, and those are missions that are following the January 2021 people,” LaBosco said. “We’re either on the border for illegal immigrants or we’re following folks from January 2021. We’re not doing our regular missions where we’re out there looking for the bad guys. So right now, on most flights, you’re not going to have air marshals.”
“Our primary mission is a little group called Quiet Skies — it’s a mission called Quiet Skies, that we’re following people that flew into the national capital region in January 2021,” she added, when asked to explain. “You did not have to go to the Capitol or the rally, and you’ve been put on a specific list that the TSA has now assigned air marshals to follow these people who have not had any type of criminal investigation, they haven’t committed a crime, but yet three years later we are following the same individuals day in and day out.”
