A “progressive” congressional candidate performed an ideological 180 after winning a tight primary election last month, suggesting once again that Democrats have no principles and are motivated solely by a thirst for power by any means.
“South Texas Democrat Michelle Vallejo won a bitter primary fight by embracing a slew of far-left policies. Now, the congressional hopeful is abandoning those progressive positions as she approaches a difficult general election campaign,” Collin Anderson of the Washington Free Beacon reported Wednesday.
The evidence of her abandoning her prior positions can be seen on her website, which, according to the Beacon, has undergone a radical overhaul in recent days.
For instance, whereas the site used to tout Vallejo’s support for “Medicare For All,” it now calls for simply expanding Medicare, which is vastly different.
VALLEJO THEN on “Health Care for All”: “Medicare For All, a single-payer universal healthcare system, is the care we deserve.”
VALLEJO NOW on “Affordable High Quality Health Care”: “Michelle believes we should expand Medicare…” (all mentions of M4A gone) pic.twitter.com/EbtkgytGon

Here’s another example: She used to support “a federal jobs guarantee program” that would have ensured “every unemployed American would be granted a good paying, union job.” But not anymore.
The “federal jobs guarantee program” page has since been replaced with a few paragraphs touting her support for the “bipartisan” infrastructure law that was passed last year.
While the infrastructure law admittedly contained plenty of radical components, it was still a far cry from “a federal jobs guarantee program.”
VALLEJO THEN on “Climate Jobs”: “Through a federal jobs guarantee program, every unemployed American would be granted a good paying, union job…”
VALLEJO NOW on “Energy Jobs”: “Michelle strongly supports the bipartisan infrastructure law…” (no more federal jobs guarantee) pic.twitter.com/D6g0Hlu1tY

Regarding schooling, she used to call for forgiving all student loan debt and making public colleges and trade schools free.
“We are failing to deliver on the promise that a college degree leads to a meaningful career and a better life. Sky-rocketing tuition costs for college and trade school have made higher education inaccessible for South Texans,” the relevant page used to read.
“Recent graduates’ opportunities are crushed under the weight of student loan debt that deepens racial and class disparities. In order to end the equity gap in higher education for low-income communities of color, we must support free public college and trade school and forgive all student loan debt.”
But not anymore. These days Vallejo is simply calling for making trade schools and community colleges “tuition-free.”
VALLEJO THEN on “Eliminating Student Debt”: “…we must support free public college and trade school and forgive all student loan debt.”
VALLEJO NOW on “Affordable Education”: “She supports making trade school and community college tuition-free…” pic.twitter.com/UJX60lQZR0

Vallejo has essentially repackaged her entire political persona to win an election. This move, not uncommon among the left, seems like another example of how Democrats lack basic principles and are motivated solely by a thirst for power.
It’s the exact same phenomenon that played out vis-a-vis the police. During the violent Black Lives Matter riots of 2020, the Democrat Party turned sharply against the police and began calling for them to be defunded.
Yet the moment the public tide turned against BLM, Democrats suddenly changed their tune and began portraying themselves as longtime defenders of law enforcement. It’s a blatant, shameless lie, but Democrats don’t appear to care.
See more examples of Vallejo’s flip-flopping below:
VALLEJO THEN on “Immigration Justice”: Touts citizenship pathway for all “undocumented Americans,” cites “racist” legal system.
VALLEJO NOW on “Immigration”: Touts citizenship pathway only for those “who have worked hard, followed the law,” calls for $$$ for “border security.” pic.twitter.com/ulDi52IDUb

VALLEJO THEN on “LGBTQ+ Justice”: “Lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and queer South Texans deserve equal protection and justice.”
VALLEJO NOW on “LGBTQ+ Justice”: “Every south Texan deserves equal protection and justice…” pic.twitter.com/6DH6wP8zAd

VALLEJO THEN on guns: Touts “a ban on assault weapons and high capacity magazines.”
VALLEJO NOW on guns: “South Texans aren’t afraid of guns – we grew up shooting at gun ranges and hunting on family ranches.” Touts support for GOP senator Cornyn’s “bipartisan gun safety bill.” pic.twitter.com/iIDR8czEar

The examples go on for days, as Vallejo has changed her position on virtually every issue, and all so that she can defeat Republican candidate Monica De La Cruz. FYI, Cruz hasn’t altered a single one of her policy positions since she won her primary.
“De La Cruz, who describes herself as a ‘proud small business owner’ and ‘woman of strong faith,’ has raised $2.9 million to Vallejo’s $700,000,” according to the Free Beacon.
To Vallejo’s credit, there’s reportedly one position she decided to maintain following her primary win.
“Both her old and new issue pages stress the need to ‘end mandatory minimum sentencing, cash bail, solitary confinement, private prisons, qualified immunity,” according to the Beacon.
In other words, she’s decided to stick to being pro-criminal.
At least one contentious section on Vallejo’s site, however, has not changed—both her old and new sections on “Justice Reform” call to end mandatory minimum sentencing, cash bail, and qualified immunity. pic.twitter.com/BITzPc2YUo
