Even with momentum seemingly at his back, Republican Rep. Jim Jordan wasn’t able to garner enough votes in the first round on Tuesday to boost him to the speakership.
Amid weeks of Republican in-fighting over former Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s ouster, tensions raised even higher after at least 20 GOP holdouts refused to give in and vote for the fiery senator. The first round of votes came dangerously close to Demoract Jeffries winning the coveted spot.

Among those who voted ‘no’ were:

Chavez-Deremer
D’Esposito
Diaz Balart
Ellzey
Garbarino
Gimenez
Gonzales
Granger

As BizPac Review reported earlier, Florida Rep. John Rutherford had stated that he would not give Matt Gaetz and the Republicans who voted to oust McCarthy the satisfaction of handing Jordan the speakerhip.
It’s not certain if that kind of pettiness is behind the reasoning for all the so-called GOP turncoats, but at this point, not many conservative constituents care about excuses. Even Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade was heard on hot mic blurting out ‘dumbass’ when Don Bacon voted for McCarthy.
That kind of sentiment resonated with folks on X as well:

Wake up Republicans, Nancy is so happy today because a lot of poor babies got their feelings hurt and are still voting for Scalise and McCarthy will not ever be speaker. Time to man up and vote for Jim

Republicans voting for McCarthy, Scalise, and Zelden are wasting their votes, our time, and our taxpayer dollars because none of them are in the running and the support Jim Jordan. You make me sick. #SpeakerOfTheHouseVote

Thankfully, there is still another round of voting.
Scalise and McCarthy need to direct their supporters to Jordan. https://t.co/cheb9oB0si
