‘They should vote against me’: Biden admits it’s ‘totally legitimate’ to worry about his age, says he could ‘drop dead tomorrow’

In what is sure to be music to the ears of many Americans, President Joe Biden suggested in a softball interview with MSNBC’s Jonathan Capehart that it’s “totally legitimate” for people to be concerned about his age and that, if they are, “they should vote against me” in 2024.

More and more, it seems Biden seriously intends to run for reelection and Capehart brought up “Aunt Gloria” in asking the president to convince her to “stick with you.”

“Well, I think Aunt Gloria should take a look. I think it’s a legitimate thing to be concerned about anyone’s age, including mine,” Biden said. “That’s totally legitimate. But I think the best way to make the judgment is to, you know, watch me. Am I slowing up? Am I — don’t have the same pace?”

“You know, and that old joke, you know, everybody talks about the, you know, the new 70’s, 50’s, you know, all that stuff. You know, I, you know, could be — I’m a great respecter of fate. I could get a disease … tomorrow, I could, you know, drop dead tomorrow,” he continued. “But I, you know, in terms of my energy level, in terms of how much I’m able to do, I think people should look and see does he still have the same passion for what he is doing? If they think I do, then it is fine. If not, they should vote against me. Not against me, they should encourage me not to go.”

(“Not to go” being an apparent reference to seeking re-election — maybe.)

In a betrayal of how friendly the interview was toward Biden, the president then grabbed Capehart by the shoulders while stepping into the journalist’s personal space and they shared a laugh when he said, “I can’t even say the age that I’m gonna be. I can’t even get it out of my mouth.”

It was clear that Biden has heard the rumblings about younger, more viable Democrats running in 2024.

“You know I’m not joking. It’s just strange,” Biden added, in reference to him turning 80 next month. “I think Aunt Gloria should just take a real, hard look. And if she concludes I am missing a beat, then she should, you know, support some other Democrat if they decide to run. But right now, knock on wood — I don’t want to jinx myself — I am in good health. Everything physically about me is still functioning well, and mentally too…But I understand people wanna ask that question.”

Not surprisingly, Biden getting up close and personal with Capehart made an impression on social media users:
