As a third arrest further dispelled a narrative of “racial terror,” a corporate media report left out a key detail regarding claims of “widespread modern-day lynchings.”
Be it a string to pull down a NASCAR garage door or a hoax involving a Subway sandwich run in the middle of the night, opportunities are rarely missed for those motivated to interject racism. While one would expect the media to dispel such narratives, an update on the suspected murder of Tasia Fortune included her race but conveniently left out the race of the three men charged.
“A third suspect was arrested on murder charges in the death of Tasia Fortune, a 29-year-old Black mother of four whose body was found hanging from a tree behind an apparently vacant Jackson, Mississippi, home on Aug. 3,” ABC News posted to X on Monday.
Within the story, the report said of the three alleged suspects, “Jarques Ratliff, 51, Earnest Lloyd Jr., 25 and Eric Clark, 45, were each arrested and charged with murder. Ratliff pleaded not guilty during a hearing on Sept. 14. It is unclear if Lloyd and Clark have entered pleas or if they have retained attorneys in this case. Ratliff’s attorney Toney Baldwin confirmed his client’s not guilty plea to ABC News, but did not comment on the charges.”
ABC News also noted Jackson Police Chief RaShall Brackney’s expectation of “more arrests” amid suspicion of a conspiracy in the “staged event … staged so that we can derail the investigation,” but left readers who shared the mugshots wondering “why ABC mentions the race of the victim but not the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd suspect.”

As was previously reported, in the aftermath of the crime, elected officials and corporate media shoehorned the murder of Fortune, found hanging from a tree at the beginning of August, into a contrived narrative about an unfounded “national crisis.”
Massachusetts Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D) insisted, “Black folks are being found hanged in America. This is a national crisis and we CANNOT stand by while strange fruit hangs from trees across the country. We’re demanding a federal investigation NOW so we can stop modern-day lynchings.”
Similarly, New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D) remarked, “This year, there have already been 10 reported hangings of Black people in the U.S. I’m proud to have signed onto @RepPressley’s letter to address this widespread modern-day lynchings and put a stop to this racial terror.”
Of course, the claims were readily debunked as context revealed outside of the murder of Fortune, the “hangings” were all reported suicides.
While some still begged the question, given past examples of selective descriptions of suspected perpetrators that even blamed cars for plowing into crowds in terror attacks, most concluded, “We don’t have to wonder. It’s a long established pattern in the Leftist media, all across the world.”
