‘This reads like a threat’: DHS blasts Gavin Newsom for ‘ugly’ remark directed at Kristi Noem

The Department of Homeland Security reacted to an ominous message that was posted by Governor Gavin Newsom’s press office.

Early Saturday morning, the X account for Newsom’s press office published a simple post that left people wondering was going on.

Look:

“Kristi Noem is going to have a bad day today. You’re welcome, America,” the cryptic message reads.

DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin shared the tweet, saying that it reads an awful lot like a “threat.”

When asked to provide context, X’s AI bot Grok had this to say:

“The post refers to California Gov. Gavin Newsom signing a package of bills on Sep 20, 2025, to protect immigrant communities and counter federal immigration enforcement under the Trump administration. Key is SB 627, the “No Secret Police Act,” banning officers from masking identities—opposed by DHS Sec. Kristi Noem, who urged a veto. This defies her department’s operations.”
