Star Spangled Tea & Coffee Co. started as a small business in a Georgia home’s dining room, and now aims to help veterans.
FOX Business highlighted Iraq War veteran Roger Owens and his wife, who found that there wasn’t an “American-themed and veteran-owned tea company” to buy from.
“My son and my wife got me drinking tea, and I was really not a tea drinker, I was more of a coffee guy,” Owens explained to the outlet. Upon realizing there was a hole in the market, he decided to take action.
“We kind of looked at each other and decided to start our own,” he said.
“We didn’t know anything about tea to begin with,” the veteran added. “… Trying to start a business during COVID was not easy.”
But that didn’t stop him from developing Star Spangled Tea & Coffee Co., which now offers “premium coffee and loose-leaf teas inspired by American history, landmarks and regional flavors.” The products source local flavors such as key limes from Florida and peaches from Georgia to give customers a taste of what the United States has to offer.
Their website offers a fun, patriotic vibe where people can discover their products and their mission, which includes helping other veterans.

“You’re used to being [part of] a team and then when you get out of the military, you’re alone other than your family, and it’s like somebody pulled the carpet out from under you,” Owens said. “We want veterans to find more than just a job. We’re looking for them to find purpose.”
Those interested in their coffee and tea can find it sold in “museums, presidential libraries, historic destinations, state parks, specialty retailers, and communities across the country.”
