Times Square billboard jabs AOC

A Times Square billboard targeted U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) for her supportive stance toward the Chinese social media app TikTok — this being the same app President Biden’s campaign recently joined.

The ad features Ocasio-Cortez’s likeness and plays on her “AOC” nickname, labeling the self-avowed socialist lawmaker as “AO-CCP” in reference to the Chinese Communist Party.

“The Chinese military is weaponizing TikTok to target American children. AOC argued against a TikTok ban… on TikTok!” the billboard declares.

The billboard promotes bestselling author Peter Schweizer’s new book, “Blood Money: Why the Powerful Turn a Blind Eye While China Kills Americans.”

In March 2023, Ocasio-Cortez posted a video on TikTok opposing any talk of banning the app in the U.S. In December 2022, President Biden signed a ban on the use of TikTok by the federal government’s nearly 4 million employees on devices owned by its agencies.

“This is not only my first TikTok, but it is a TikTok about TikTok,” AOC said. “Do I believe TikTok should be banned? No.”

“I think it’s important to discuss how unprecedented of a move this would be. The United States has never before banned a social media company from existence, from operating in our borders,” she added. “And this is an app that has over 150 million Americans on it.”
