Tom Homan defends himself against new hit piece: ‘I did nothing illegal’

An alleged pay-to-play scandal found border czar Tom Homan decrying “hit piece after hit piece” from corporate media, with backup from the White House, while one congresswoman took a potshot.

Since President Donald Trump’s return to office, efforts to obstruct the restoration of national sovereignty as well as law and order by leftists have seen them grow increasingly more radical. While protests of immigration enforcement have become requisite campaign stops for Democratic politicians, Homan was made to counter claims that he’d received $50,000 in cash in exchange for government contracts under the Trump administration.

At the end of an interview on Monday’s edition of Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle,” host Laura Ingraham raised the report from MSNBC that came out over the weekend alleging that Homan had accepted the cash from an undercover FBI agent in September 2024 as part of an exchange that was recorded with hidden cameras.

“Tom, I wanna give you a chance to address this article that came out over the weekend. It was on our always reliable MSNBC, and they said that you took $50,000 in cash in a bag from an undercover FBI agent to help them win government contracts in Trump’s second term,” said the host. “The DOJ said they concluded there was no criminal wrongdoing, but nevertheless, that story is out there, and I imagine you want to respond to that.”

In response, Homan began, “Look, I did nothing criminal. I did nothing illegal. It’s hit piece after hit piece after hit piece, and I’m glad the FBI and DOJ came out and said, you know, said that nothing illegal happened — no criminal activity.”

“You’re talking about a guy who spent 34 years enforcing the law. I mean, I left a very successful business that I ran to come back and work for the government again. I’m back on a government paycheck. Not only did I sacrifice, my family sacrificed. I make sacrifices every day,” continued the border czar. “I got more death threats than anybody. I got a security team around me, but guess what? My kids don’t. My wife don’t. I mean, I haven’t lived with my wife in months because I don’t want her to be here right now with all the threats.”

“So after all the sacrifices, after serving my nation for all these years, they want to come out and dirty me up. And it’s not going to end,” he added.

The report included a statement to MSNBC from FBI Director Kash Patel and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche that not only dismissed suggestions of wrongdoing by Homan, but also chastised those who would steer limited resources toward “baseless investigations.”

“This matter originated under the previous administration and was subjected to a full review by FBI agents and Justice Department prosecutors. They found no credible evidence of any criminal wrongdoing. The Department’s resources must remain focused on real threats to the American people, not baseless investigations. As a result, the investigation has been closed,” read the joint statement as White House Deputy Press Secretary Abigail Jackson took her own dig at the “blatantly political investigation” from under then-President Joe Biden’s DOJ that used “it’s resources to target President Trump’s allies rather than investigate real criminals and the millions of illegal aliens who flooded our country.”

Despite those statements and the fact that she herself had been called out earlier in the year for allegedly aiding illegal aliens in avoiding deportation, New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D) saw fit to use the MSNBC report as a chance to score political points as she posted to X, “Who’s the illegal now @RealTomHoman?”

Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt was also questioned about the report during Monday’s White House press briefing, leading her to tamp down the notion that the president had requested the investigation be closed while aiming to put to rest the notion that Homan had ever accepted the alleged $50,000 payment.

“Well, Mr. Homan never took the $50,000 that you’re referring to, so you should get your facts straight, number one. Number two, this was another example of the weaponization of the Biden Department of Justice against one of President Trump’s strongest and most vocal supporters in the midst of a presidential campaign,” asserted Leavitt. “You had FBI agents going undercover to try and entrap one of the president’s top allies and supporters, someone who they knew very well would be taking a government position months later.”

The press secretary noted after the DOJ had reviewed the case, “They found zero evidence of illegal activity or criminal wrongdoing. And the White House and the president stand by Tom Homan 100% because he did absolutely nothing wrong, and he is a brave public servant who has done a phenomenal job in helping the president shut down the border.”
