Trans sex offender who gave bizarre interview while on the run busted for allegedly exposing himself to underage girl

A transgender man who allegedly exposed his half-erect penis to several women and an underage girl in two separate changing room incidents at the Wi Spa in Los Angeles in September 2021 gave a bizarre interview to LA Mag justifying his actions just before he was busted earlier in December.

The suspect is 53-year-old Darren Agee Merager, according to the Daily Mail. He has been charged with five felony counts of indecent exposure in connection with the incidents which include the altercation at Wi Spa that spawned months of violent protests led by Antifa. There are 11 counts in total. Bail was set at $350,000.

The suspect is a convicted sex offender who now identifies as a woman. He stirred unrest and violence among activists when he denied the charges and claimed to be a victim of transphobia.

As the protests played out, Merager’s prior sex crimes were revealed. He was eventually outed as a registered sex offender who was convicted for similar incidents in 2002 and 2003.

Merager spoke with LA Mag reporter Jeremy Lee Quinn over a period of several months before he was arrested. He claimed he was surprised by the protests.

“I was completely caught off guard by that. I live my own personal private life. I try to stay aware of the community, but I’m very much a person that doesn’t belong to any type of organization. Even put me under a transgender umbrella, and I’m very uncomfortable. But when they had that second protest, I wanted to really understand why people were protesting. I actually went down there just to witness it,” he recounted.

He also commented on others he had unwittingly drawn into his sick orbit.

“Being on the lam doesn’t only affect me. Back when this thing first started, I sold my car to my doctor, and then the police followed this car, dragged my doctor’s elderly father from behind the wheel, with the helicopters and news cameras on him, and held him there handcuffed for hours. He’s clearly an elderly Korean man. I’m a white guy with long, blond hair! So people close to me have also been affected,” he said, attempting to demonize the police.

Merager has a very long rap sheet that includes a separate locker room incident in December 2018 as well as other offenses stretching over nearly two decades that include burglary and trespassing.

Originally, Merager said he would fight the charges. Then he ran. When the reporter asked him why he fled, the suspect claimed he couldn’t pay the bail.

“I couldn’t bail out. They were going to put my bail to the point where it’s just through the roof. I mean, it could be close to a million dollars. There’s no way I’d ever be able to get out. That’s not turning yourself in. I said, ‘I’m not going to just be kidnapped. Enough is enough,'” he remarked.

“It’s okay for a man to go into the women’s section, show his penis around the other women, young little girls — underage — in your spa?” an enraged woman who is purportedly one of Merager’s victims said on a viral video when she confronted Wi Spa staff over it.

“He’s a man! He is a man!” she raged.

When Merager was asked why he didn’t use a stall to avoid the incident, he defiantly defended his actions.

“It’s not for me to adapt to society at this point. Even if it’s the polite thing to do or you want me to or there’s a controversy or whatever, if nobody else is using a shower curtain or nobody else is using a swimsuit, it’s illegal to try and make me do it. Technically, and from all perspectives, I am female, and everybody agrees with that. We’re all on equal grounds under the law,” he outrageously contended.

“One step away from Santa Monica Boulevard, where there are rainbows and guys sitting in windows with rubber balls sticking in their mouths. You bring your kids over here, and you’re afraid they’re seeing a transgender person?” Merager infuriatingly told LA Mag, attempting to excuse his actions.
