Trans woman roasted for secretly recording restaurant staff saying ‘thank you, sir’

In an effort to draw attention to a misgendering issue, one transgender “woman” got roasted online over the “egocentric power trip.”

The viral video, shared on TikTok by @lillytino_, showed the trans woman secretly filming restaurant servers who were accused of misgendering and repeatedly referring to him as “sir.” But the effort to shame the workers backfired as social media users torched the trans for the “attention-seeking” stunt at the expense of innocent staff.

“It’s always like a knife in the heart. It always hurts,” the transgender tells a server in the video which included clips where staff could be heard saying, “thank you sir” or “yes sir.”

“I use she/her pronouns. I’m not sir. I specifically asked not to be called sir,” the self-filming customer responded in the video. “‘I don’t need to be called ma’am, I just need to not be called sir.”

In one clip, he is seen getting up to leave an eatery after being referred to as “sir” again.

The video with the caption “USE GENDER NEUTRAL LANGUAGE” and sports the transgender in various outfits with full makeup, has been viewed on TikTok over 7 million times and generated nearly 50 thousand comments.

The video was also shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, where it was reposted it with the caption, “When you demand that everyone not use their eyes, ears, and brains, and you ask for the manager when they don’t.”

The post on X has garnered over half a million views and well over 2,000 comments, including one by columnist and podcast host Matt Walsh.

“It’s nothing but a egocentric power trip for these people,” the author wrote. “The only appropriate response is to tell him that you’ll continue to refer to him as a man, because that’s what he is, and there’s absolutely not a single damn thing he can do about it.”

“Most people don’t know what to assume, or to say sir/ma’am but either way they do it out of respect and having manners,” one social media user pointed out in the comments.

The trans woman did have a predictable share of support online with one user lamenting, “I can’t even begin to imagine how exhausting this must be. I am incredibly proud that you continue to stand up for yourself! You deserve respect.”

Restaurant workers were among the commenters, with many expressing the difficulties in serving customers while trying to remain respectful.

“As a server I use “guys” a lot as a neutral term for a group and I’m always scared someone will be offended but it’s so imprinted into my server scrip,” one user tweeted.

But, the general consensus seemed to be that the transgender who shot and posted the video deserved to be lambasted.
