On Sunday, President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to push federal agencies to “buy American.”
As his tariffs continue to come under fire from judges debating their legality, Trump is claiming that there is no excuse to not buy American-made products. He also touted his administration’s work in “strengthening MADE IN AMERICA Laws, ENDING Waiver Loopholes, and STOPPING the Federal Government from buying Foreign Products.”

Under the Buy American Act of 1933, federal agencies are already largely required to purchase American-made products for public use, but there are some loopholes such as lack of product availability, unreasonable cost and whether domestic investment would be counter to public interest.
