Trump announces, ‘you won’t be paying income tax’ in near future

A more than a century-old burden could be nearing its end as President Donald Trump hinted at a change to the tax system in the “not too distant future.”

Just in time for America’s 250th anniversary, the president’s economic agenda found him talking up predictions of record-breaking returns for taxpayers during Tuesday’s cabinet meeting. The positive outlook featured an even sunnier suggestion that the revenue brought in through tariffs could mean “you’re not gonna have income tax to pay.”

Surrounded by members of his administration in the White House Cabinet Room, the chief executive stated, “I believe that at some point in the not too distant future you won’t even have income tax to pay, because the money we’re taking in is so great, it’s so enormous that you’re not gonna have income tax to pay.”

“Whether you get rid of it or just keep it around for fun or have it really low, much lower than it is now, but you won’t be paying income tax,” added Trump.

The passing prediction came as the president was touting accomplishments made in the first year of his second administration, especially provisions in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which carried out his promise for no taxes on tips, overtime, and social security.

“Next year’s projected to be the largest tax refund season ever, and we’re gonna be giving back refunds out of the tariffs cause we’ve taken in literally trillions of dollars. And we’re gonna be giving a nice dividend to the people in addition to reducing debt,” he said.

Talk of putting an end to what the 16th Amendment had enshrined as possible in the Constitution when it was ratified in 1913 has been ongoing since Trump’s return to the White House, as he sought to make tariffs the key source of revenue for the federal government once more.

“It’s time for the United States to return to the system that made us richer and more powerful than ever before,” the president expressed in January as he criticized the central banking system. “Instead of taxing our citizens to enrich foreign nations, we should be tariffing and taxing foreign nations to enrich our citizens.”

Shortly thereafter, he posted to Truth Social, “Anybody that’s against Tariffs, including the Fake News Wall Street Journal, and Hedge Funds, is only against them because these people or entities are controlled by China, or other foreign or domestic companies. Anybody that loves and believes in the United States of America is in favor of Tariffs. They should have never ended, in favor of the Income Tax System, in 1913. The response to Tariffs has been FANTASTIC!”

In addition to the skeptics, comprised of those who couldn’t rationalize a reduction in government spending to match the funds raised through tariffs and those who considered an end to the income tax as a tantalizing fantasy, there were many reactions on social media expressing that this sort of economic vision is exactly what they voted for.
