Trump blasts new ABC News report claiming he ‘deliberately’ misled his attorneys over classified docs

Former President Trump hammered ABC News over a report released on Tuesday that claims prosecutors “presented compelling preliminary evidence” charging that he “knowingly and deliberately” misled his attorneys over the classified documents case.

The ABC News story cites unnamed sources once again to attack the former president and it is based on a sealed filing written by US Judge Beryl Howell who stepped down last week as the DC District Court’s chief judge.

Trump was incensed over the story citing unnamed sources and quoting a former Democratic Senate aide appointed by former President Barack Obama to the bench that has since stepped down.

“Shame on Fake News ABC for broadcasting ILLEGALLY LEAKED false allegations from a Never Trump, now former chief judge, against the Trump legal team. This disinformation is on par with their breathless Russia, Russia, Russia, Ukraine, Ukraine, Ukraine and ‘no-collusion’ Mueller speculation, all of which were totally disproven. These leaks are happening because there is no factual or legal basis or substance to any case against President Trump. The deranged Democrats and their comrades in the mainstream media are corrupting the legal process and weaponizing the justice system in order to manipulate public opinion, because they are clearly losing the political battle,” a statement from the Trump campaign declared.

“The real story here, that Fake News ABC SHOULD be reporting on, is that prosecutors only attack lawyers when they have no case whatsoever,” it added. “President Trump is the only leader fighting for the Constitution in order to protect the American people from being abused by a crooked system.”

The DC Circuit Court of Appeals stayed Howell’s order temporarily on Tuesday night, according to Politico. The three-person panel, all Democrat appointees, asked Trump’s attorneys to specify the precise set of documents at issue by midnight and for Smith’s team to respond by 6 am on Wednesday to the Trump team’s demand for a longer stay of Howell’s ruling.

ABC News cited an unnamed source who said that the Justice Department provided compelling evidence for Trump’s attorney Evan Corcoran to be forced back before the panel even though it violates attorney-client privilege.

The unnamed sources cite federal prosecutors in Special Counsel Jack Smith’s office. The report asserts that Howell “wrote last week that prosecutors” in the special counsel’s office made a “prima facie showing that the former president had committed criminal violations.”

The judge contended that “attorney-client privileges invoked by two of his [Trump’s] lawyers could therefore be pierced.”

“In her sealed filing, Howell ordered that Evan Corcoran, an attorney for Trump, should comply with a grand jury subpoena for testimony on six separate lines of inquiry over which he had previously asserted attorney-client privilege,” the report states making it clear that the Department of Justice swayed the leftist judge.

“Sources added that Howell also ordered Corcoran to hand over a number of records tied to what Howell described as Trump’s alleged ‘criminal scheme,’ echoing prosecutors. Those records include handwritten notes, invoices, and transcriptions of personal audio recordings,” the media outlet continued.

Prosecutors are seeking testimony from both Corcoran and attorney Christina Bobb concerning their role in drafting and delivering a certified June 2022 letter stating that after a “diligent search” of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, all documents were found and handed over and that no further documents were retained.

Trump has not been charged in the case but is still under investigation by the grand jury in Washington. Prosecutors relied on surveillance videos in arguing their case to Howell, one source told CNN.
