Trump casts doubts about debating Kamala on ABC after watching Sunday shows: ‘Why would I?’

Next month’s presidential debate hosted by ABC News is hanging in the balance as former President Donald Trump asked why he should appear on “that network.”

The Republican presidential nominee took to his Truth Social platform on Sunday to raise questions about debating Vice President Kamala Harris on a network that is home to “lightweight” reporters and panels of “Trump Haters.”

David Muir and Linsey Davis will reportedly moderate the ABC News-hosted debate scheduled for Sept. 10. Trump originally agreed to the event when he was supposed to square off against President Joe Biden. But Biden being pushed off the Democratic Party ticket and Harris becoming the party’s presidential nominee were obvious game-changers for the 2024 race.

Trump did come to accept doing the debate with Harris instead but pressed for additional events to be hosted by Fox News and NBC News in September. Harris, however, has only agreed to debate on the ABC-hosted event with no further indication on other networks.

“I watched ABC FAKE NEWS this morning, both lightweight reporter Jonathan Carl’s(K?) ridiculous and biased interview of Tom Cotton (who was fantastic!), and their so-called Panel of Trump Haters, and I ask, why would I do the Debate against Kamala Harris on that network?” Trump wrote on his social media platform Sunday.

“Will panelist Donna Brazil give the questions to the Marxist Candidate like she did for Crooked Hillary Clinton?” Trump asked, referring to the 2016 race in which Brazile, then the interim chair of the Democratic National Committee leaked topics for a CNN town hall to Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

“Will Kamala’s best friend, who heads up ABC, do likewise. Where is Liddle’ George Slopadopolus hanging out now? Will he be involved,” Trump continued his post.

“They’ve got a lot of questions to answer!!!” Trump concluded. “Why did Harris turn down Fox, NBC, CBS, and even CNN? Stay tuned!!!”

CNN news anchor Kaitlan Collins was among the many on the left who quickly jumped on the narrative that Trump is afraid to debate Harris and will back out of the ABC-hosted event. Naturally, Trump supporters on social media threw cold water on that hot take.
