Trump could benefit from Catholics running from ‘anti-Christian’ Democrat Party

Vice President Kamala Harris and the “anti-Christian” left could make all the difference for the faith-promoting former president, particularly when it comes to Catholics.

Since the attempt on his life, former President Donald Trump has become more vocal about God’s influence and, in recent days, his campaign has ramped up get-out-the-vote efforts among the Christian community. With Harris’ history of “anti-Catholic rhetoric,” and every election save for 2000 going the way of Catholic voters during the era of Roe v. Wade, the GOP leader was poised to welcome support from those “Democrats have abandoned.”

“They’re anti-Christian, and it’s driving people out,” Catholic League President Bill Donohue told Fox News Digital during a phone interview when speaking about the Democratic Party.

“And the guys I’m talking to,” he continued, “it’s not even so much abortion. It’s just they feel like they don’t speak their language anymore. This whole idea of letting men compete against women in sports abuses the bathrooms [sic], they think they’ve just gone off the deep end.”

Sunday, after a week that included the launch of the “Catholics for Trump” and “Believers for Trump” coalitions with former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Dr. Ben Carson named as the campaign’s National Faith Chairman, Trump was lauded for drawing attention to the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary when he posted an image of Our Lady of Guadalupe with the caption “Happy Birthday Mary!”

“Kamala Harris hates Catholics and everything we hold sacred,” contended CatholicVote president Brian Burch in a statement accompanying the announcement of “Catholics for Trump.” “We can’t pretend otherwise. Our institutions, families, culture, and belief in the sanctity of all human life are the antithesis of her vision for America. Donald Trump and JD Vance — and now RFK — are the antidote to the ruling class that has destroyed our country.”

Likewise, The Daily Wire’s Michael Knowles contended, “President Trump’s record in office is more closely aligned with Catholic principles than that of any other president or major party nominee in my lifetime. In 2024, he is running against the most radically anti-Catholic presidential candidate in my lifetime. This is not a difficult decision.”

Donohue told Fox News Digital, “I would suspect that in terms of [President Joe] Biden dropping out, it might help Harris a little bit, if only because she’s less well known. But once people find out that her views are indistinguishable from that of Biden’s, including born alive protection laws … when the baby is born as a result of a botched abortion, the Democrats — for most of them, not all, most of them — say that the doctor has no obligation to rescue the child. You can just let the child die at the table. Most Americans are opposed to that.”

Then-California Sen. Harris voted against the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act in 2020 and made waves earlier in 2024 when she was credited as the first incumbent vice president to tour an abortion clinic.

However, to Donohue’s point, public unfamiliarity with Harris’ views allowed her basement campaign to curry 50% in a survey conducted with EWTN News/RealClear Opinion Research at the end of August where Trump picked up 43% and 6% remained undecided.

“The Democrat Party and the Harris-Biden Administration have waged war on Christianity with their support for abortion up until birth, the Department of Justice targeting and imprisoning pro-life activists, and the FBI plotting to infiltrate Catholic masses to spy on attendees,” Trump campaign national Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said to Fox News Digital before reminding, “Kamala and Biden also shamefully declared the Holiest Day on the Christian Calendar as ‘Trans Visibility Day’ and allowed a transgender activist to take off their shirt and expose themselves on the White House South Lawn.”

“President Trump will restore the Christian conservative values of faith, family, and freedom, end the Harris-Biden Administration’s discrimination against Christians, and stand up for religious freedom, as he did in his first term,” added Leavitt.

“A lot of Catholics do feel alienated,” contended Donohue. “Many of them have found a new anchor with the Republicans. And listen, the guys that I hang out with in my Irish Pub…Every one of these guys are union guys, and many of them are retired. They’re all lifelong Democrats, and every single one of them are voting for Trump. Every single one of them are voting for Trump because they say the Democrats have abandoned them.”
