Trump declares Joe Biden’s paper straw mandate is ‘DEAD!’

In a Truth Social post made early Saturday, President Donald Trump bid goodbye to a Biden-era mandate that Americans roundly despised.

Anyone who has had to use a paper straw to consume a drink can tell you how inferior they are to their plastic counterparts, including Trump. In his post, he announced that former President Joe Biden’s paper straw mandate is “dead.”

Look:

“Crooked Joe’s MANDATE, ‘NO PLASTIC STRAWS, ONLY PAPER,’ IS DEAD! Enjoy your next drink without a straw that disgustingly dissolves in your mouth!!!” Trump wrote.

During his administration, Biden attempted to phase out single-use products, like plastic straws and cutlery, from federal government use by 2035. Trump was able to capitalize on the disgust generated by the use of dissolvable paper straws by selling packs of ten reuseable plastic straws emblazoned with his name, marketing them as an alternative to “liberal paper straws.”

Several cities have also moved to ban the use of plastic single-use items as well, and businesses like Starbucks and McDonald’s have moved toward more planet-friendly alternatives.

In 2019, Trump addressed the issue of plastic items and the threat of microplastics being introduced into the body, including the possibility of brain and reproductive issues that have been discovered in animals.

“I do think we have bigger problems than plastic straws. You have a little straw, but what about the plates, the wrappers and everything else that are much bigger and they’re made of the same material?”

“Everybody focuses on the straws,” he said, when asked about the topic. “There’s a lot of other things to focus, but it’s an interesting question.”
