Former President Donald J. Trump’s ongoing legal troubles have yet to derail his steamrolling toward the GOP nomination but the embattled frontrunner is seeing some slippage in a key early-voting state although he still retains a big lead over his closest competitor, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
According to a new poll from the Daily Mail which surveyed voters in New Hampshire, Trump has dropped nine points from April as other candidates who have benefitted from glowing media coverage and constant exposure have eaten away at his lead, but they are still polling below 10 percent with only DeSantis in double digits, albeit a distant second.
The former president’s previous lead of 51 percent has been shaved to 42 percent as Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, the human torpedo deployed to sink Trump who has been propelled by a nonstop string of media appearances, have both gained ground although they still trail by big enough numbers that they are extreme longshots at this time.

Both Scott and Christie are at 8 percent according to the survey of “591 registered Republicans and others planning to request a primary ballot” that was conducted for the outlet by  J.L. Partners.
DeSantis is down 3 percent from April, clocking in with 15 percent, with former South Carolina Governor and U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley and outsider Vivek Ramaswamy tied with 4 precent, former Vice President Mike Pence is polling at a dismal 2 percent.
J.L. Partners founder James Johnson says that the large GOP field benefits Trump, much as it did in 2016.
“The new kids on the block are on the up. That’s the story of our latest New Hampshire poll which shows Chris Christie and Tim Scott growing their support at the expense of Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis,” Johnson said, according to the Daily Mail. “But despite Trump’s vote share taking a hit, it is the former president who benefits the most. The more varied the field, the more chance he has of winning the nomination. Trump remains the hot favorite for the New Hampshire primary.”
The poll also shows Trump mauling DeSantis in a head-to-head matchup 50-33.
In more good news for the ex-POTUS and current Republican frontrunner, a just released poll by Fox Business has Trump holding big leads in two additional early voting states, Iowa and South Carolina.

While it remains unclear as to whether Trump will even be a free man come next November as Special Counsel Jack Smith is set to arrest and indict him on charges related to the so-called J6 “insurrection,” putting his fate in the hands of a hostile D.C. judge and jury, he is still clobbering the rest of the field although it’s important to note that the first primaries are still months away, an eternity in politics.
