Trump gives update on long overdue Fort Knox audit

President Donald Trump discussed whether or not he plans on conducting a comprehensive audit of Fort Knox’s gold stash.

Trump joined Sharyl Attkisson for a wide-ranging interview that included his desire to crack open Fort Knox to see if there is still any of the nation’s gold reserve left, which carries an estimated value of around $700 billion. The idea for an audit came up last year when Elon Musk, then acting as the boss of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), reacted to suggestions on X.

Now, it appears that the president is still entertaining the notion of revealing whether or not the gold, which accounts for half of the United States’ total supply, is still safe and sound in the vault.

“We wanted to go and knock on the door of Fort Knox — a very thick door — and to see whether or not we have any gold in there,” he told Attkisson. “It’s a very interesting question. We played with that. I wonder if they left the gold in Fort Knox, because they steal a lot.”

“No need to really do that, though?” Attkisson asked.

“Well, I don’t know. I do want to go to Fort Knox sometime. I want to see if the gold is there, which I’m sure it will be,” the president responded.
