Trump attorney Alina Habba expects the fourth indictment of former President Donald Trump to be handed down ‘within weeks.’
Appearing on Fox News “Sunday Morning Futures,” Habba told host Maria Bartiromo that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis will indict Trump on charges related to his alleged attempts to overturn Georgia’s 2020 election results.
“The barricades, the fact that she’s got her P.R. team doing fresh pictures for her, it’s a good indicator that Fani wants her moment, and she will — she will get on the bandwagon with the rest of the corrupt D.A.s and A.G.s that we have seen out of this country,” the attorney said.
“Look at Fani — two years, but she’s bringing this case now. Why? Because of election interference,” Habba added. “They want to keep him tied up in trials, keep his lawyers tied up so that we’re distracted and not focused. It’s not going to work. He is a machine, and he knows what he’s doing in a campaign. You know, he’s done this rodeo before.”
She echoed Trump’s remarks last week after being indicted for the third time by special counsel Jack Smith for his actions on Jan. 6, 2021 — Trump is charged with conspiracy to defraud the United States; conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding; obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding; and conspiracy against rights.
“It says it all. This is not America. This is not how you fight your political opponents, because you can’t win on issues and you can’t win on policies,” Habba said. “Your borders are going to hell. We have drugs and pandemic. I mean, it’s a mess. Our country is a mess. So what do they do? They arrest Trump over and over again to distract you from the corruption that’s happening inside the Biden administration and the policies that they can’t win on.”
As for the former president, he seems to be thriving on the persecution, as seen in his remarks Friday during a Republican Party dinner in Montgomery, Ala.
“Any time they file an indictment, we go way up in the polls,” Trump proclaimed. “We need one more indictment to close out this election. One more indictment and this election is closed out.”
Interestingly, the one thing Trump has so far avoided is the one thing his most bitter enemies covet — a mugshot. But Fulton County Sheriff Pat Labat seems determined to change that, saying last week that if the leading Republican presidential candidate is indicted in Georgia, he will be subject to “normal practices,” including fingerprints and a mugshot.
“Unless somebody tells me differently, we are following our normal practices, and so it doesn’t matter your status. We’ll have a mug shot ready for you,” Labat said at a press conference on Tuesday.
Smith also indicted Trump in Florida for allegedly mishandling classified documents, which supposedly includes sensitive documents on nuclear capabilities — he was hit with 40 felony counts, including charges of retaining classified information, obstructing justice and making false statements.
He became the first former U.S. president in history to face criminal charges when Democratic prosecutor Alvin Bragg dropped a 34-count felony indictment stemming from hush money payments allegedly made during the 2016 presidential campaign to bury claims of an affair leveled by porn star Stormy Daniels.
