Trump looks at ‘TV ready’ female running mate who knows how to be ‘loyal’: source

The 2024 presidential election is just getting underway, but there’s already talk about who Donald Trump will tap as his running mate — talk that helps clear the field considering that it’s based on the presumption that Trump will be the Republican nominee.

According to a Trump insider, the former president understands that he needs help with suburban women and that a female candidate would “be an advantage to have on the ticket.”

But not just any female candidate. The ideal candidate will be a “TV ready” individual who is “loyal” to Trump, according to The Daily Caller.

“We do know one thing about Trump, is that he puts a lot of weight on how well you present yourself. That really matters to him, so I suspect that will matter for his VP choice,” a GOP consultant close to the Trump campaign told the Daily Caller, adding that the person would have to be “TV ready.”

“Loyalty. That’s the necessary characteristic of anyone who wants to be VP. President Trump and the movement was dragged down by disloyalty in the White House,” said another anonymous source close to the campaign.

Trump did not do well with suburban women in 2020 and sources close to the campaign are saying he will likely choose a female running mate.

“I think he would very much be open to a female… it depends. I don’t believe in diversity for the sake of diversity when it comes to elections and political figures, but I think there are people out there that are female that would be good fits for him,” the GOP consultant said.

U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., was mentioned as a possibility.

“It’s always seemed to me that it will be a woman. Whenever I’ve talked to people who worked in Trump world, it’s always assumed to be someone like Elise Stefanik or some other woman candidate,” the source added.

When asked about the possibility of being Trump’s VP last year, Stefanik did not rule it out.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen in the future,” the No. 3 Republican in the House told the N.Y. Post.

Interestingly, two names that are top of mind have essentially been scrapped already: U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., and Kari Lake, who lost the Arizona gubernatorial election in 2022.

“What I will say that’s bullshit that’s always floating around is Kari Lake,” the consultant said. “Kari Lake will not be his VP pick. She’s running for Senate instead. I don’t think MTG will be his pick either.”

Lake holds a wide lead in a hypothetical Arizona Senate Republican primary, according to a new poll released this week by J. L. Partners. She is seen as the GOP’s best chance to win the seat.

“If Kari Lake decides to run [for the Senate], it’s clear she is not only the front-runner but will run away with the nomination. The GOP establishment would be smart to get behind her right away so we can win Arizona,” an unnamed GOP strategist said, according to The Hill.
