Trump offers amusing take on why he likes to ‘hang around with losers’

After an address on economics, the president dished out a “sort of” tongue-in-cheek take on why he likes to “hang around with losers.”

“I hate guys that are very, very successful …”

Throughout his political career, President Donald Trump has been known for promising that the success of his leadership will make supporters “tired of winning.” Friday, he offered a new, laughter-inducing take on choosing to spend time with losers over winners, ” … ’cause it makes me feel better.”

The quip came during a trip to Miami, Florida, where the chief executive had been invited to field some questions after giving a speech to the nonprofit Future Investment Initiative (FII) Institute, including the query, “Mr. President, what is the one leadership trait the world is missing right now?”

“Well, it’s winning. You gotta win. You know, I’ve watched a lot of people, leaders, great leaders, and you know the one thing about sports is you break it down into, you know, a two-hour period … You don’t have to wait a lifetime to find out is somebody a winner or a loser. You got a lot of losers, mostly losers, fortunately,” began Trump before adding, “It’s a good thing to have a lot of losers. I always like to hang around with losers, actually, ’cause it makes me feel better.”

“I hate guys that are very, very successful, and you have to listen to their success stories,” the president continued. “I like people that like to listen to my success. But, I find, and I found this — and I’m only kidding. I wanna say that … eh, sort of — but I find that people that win, it’s much easier to lead when you’re successful, and you win.”

Contrary to his commentary on spending time with losers, the commander-in-chief has been known for rubbing elbows with some of the most successful people in various fields, including his rollercoaster friendship with the world’s richest man, Elon Musk, who appeared on track to become the first trillionaire.

“Winning helps you to become a better leader. People follow you if you win,” added Trump after opining that late football coach Vince Lombardi was a “sort of violent guy” who “got away with things because he won.”

Before voicing his respect for China over its accomplishments with a system that “in theory shouldn’t work” as the communist party does not allow for free enterprise, the president fielded a follow-up question as to who he views to be winners and losers.

Slamming the “somewhat radicalized” system because the Democrats are really holding us back,” the president reiterated how America is “the hottest country anywhere in the world” and “you better hope” the left doesn’t reclaim control “because they’ll destroy a lot of what we’ve built.”
