Trump reportedly turns down $15 million offer to settle ’60 Minutes’ lawsuit

President Donald J. Trump has reportedly rejected an offer from CBS parent Paramount to settle a lawsuit over a “60 Minutes” interview with then Democrat candidate Kamala Harris that was allegedly doctored for her political benefit.

According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, the president turned down $15 million to make the $20 billion suit go away, a matter that could potentially complicate a merger of the company and its CBS News subsidiary with independent studio Skydance, reportedly an $8 billion deal.

In the interview with Harris mere weeks before the 2024 election, “60 Minutes” showed different answers to a question about Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu in the preview and the entire segment that aired later, with Trump accusing CBS News of “deceitful editing” to benefit the vice president in her White House bid.

“Paramount Global in recent days has offered $15 million to settle, according to people familiar with the situation. Trump’s team wants more than $25 million and is also seeking an apology from CBS News, one of the people said,” the WSJ reported, citing sources.

“Trump’s team has threatened another lawsuit against CBS related to alleged bias of its news coverage, according to the people. Wednesday is the deadline for Trump to respond to Paramount’s motion to dismiss the lawsuit,” according to the outlet.

“She gave an answer that was so bad and so incompetent that they decided to take the answer out in its entirety and put a new answer in,” Trump previously said.

The president not only wants more money, but also a public apology.

Longtime “60 Minutes” regular interviewer Scott Pelley didn’t exactly help CBS News’ case that they are unbiased and adhere to the highest standards of journalistic integrity when he delivered a highly political rant during his commencement address at Wake Forest University in North Carolina over the weekend.

“The case we have against 60 Minutes, CBS, and Paramount is a true WINNER. They cheated and defrauded the American People at levels never seen before in the Political Arena. Kamala Harris, during Early Voting and, immediately before Election Day, was asked a question, and gave an answer, that was so bad and incompetent that it would have cost her many of the Votes that she ended up getting. It was a disastrous answer!” Trump wrote in a post to Truth Social last month.

“60 Minutes and its corporate parents, in order that this not have a negative impact on her, removed and deleted Kamala’s entire answer, every word of it, and replaced it with a response that she gave later on to an entirely different question. The new answer was not good, but it didn’t show Gross Incompetence like the one that was removed by 60 Minutes. In other words, 60 Minutes perpetrated a Giant FRAUD against the American People, the Federal Elections Commission, and the Federal Communications System,” he added.
