Trump says he’s the only one who can prevent WWIII as Biden sends F-16s to Zelenskyy

While President Joe Biden joined world leaders at the G7 summit to reaffirm a seemingly indefinite commitment to Ukraine, former President Donald Trump took stock of the stakes and offered a bold assertion on how to “bring peace to Europe and the World!”

Over the weekend, Biden’s trip to Hiroshima, Japan included a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and saw the goalposts of the conflict move yet again. Prior to Russia’s invasion of the neighboring country, the president had touted sanctions as a deterrent, and 15 months later he is promising F-16s and training “as part of a long-term commitment to Ukraine’s ability to defend itself.”

Sunday, Trump took to Truth Social to weigh in on the development with a dire prediction about his successor’s trajectory and the importance of his own involvement.

“Biden continues to bring the world ever closer to nuclear war. I alone am the candidate who can prevent World War 3. I will end the killing and bloodshed and bring peace to Europe and the World!” he proclaimed.

Included with the post was a screenshot of a New York Times article that read, “President Biden will allow Ukrainian pilots to be trained on U.S.-made F-16 fighter jets, he told U.S. allies on Friday. He said he is also prepared to let other countries give F-16s to Ukraine — a major upgrade of their military and a sharp reversal.”

Trump has oft-repeated the claim about his ability to negotiate an end to the war and backed up the notion with his foreign policy record where no new conflicts were started. At the Lincoln-Reagan Dinner in Fort Myers, Florida on April 21 he suggested he could resolve the dispute between the 2024 election and inauguration, “Before I even arrive at the Oval Office, shortly after I win the presidency, I will have the horrible war between Russia and Ukraine settled. Standing before you today, I am the only candidate who can make this promise: I will prevent World War Three.”

The former president has also offered to step in and negotiate an end to the conflict well before the election, and remarked amid suspicion that the Nord Stream pipelines carrying natural gas from Russia to Germany had been damaged due to sabotage, “U.S. ‘Leadership’ should remain ‘cool, calm, and dry’ on the SABOTAGE of the Nord Stream Pipelines.”

“This is a big event that should not entail a big solution, at least not yet. The Russia/Ukraine catastrophe should NEVER have happened, and would definitely not have happened if I were President,” Trump posted to Truth Social in September. “Do not make matters worse with the pipeline blowup. Be strategic, be smart (brilliant!), get a negotiated deal done NOW. Both sides need and want it. The entire World is at stake. I will head up group???”

Meanwhile, Biden has chiefly appeared interested in championing the triumph of Ukraine without defining what victory looks like and said at a press conference in Japan, “We’re going to continue to provide economic, humanitarian, and security assistance to Ukraine so it can stand strong as long as it needs it.”

“And today, the United States announced our latest tranche of artillery, ammunition, anti-tank weapons, and bridging equipment to help Ukraine succeed in the battlefield,” he continued.

“You know, in my private meeting with President Zelenskyy after the G7 meeting and his with staff — the United States, together with our allies and partners,” Biden explained, “is going to begin training Ukrainian pilots in fourth-generation fighter aircraft, including F-16s, to strengthen Ukraine’s air force as part of a long-term commitment to Ukraine’s ability to defend itself.”

In vague terms, the president asserted, “We provided, the last year, all that they needed to deal with what they were dealing with at the moment, and that’s what — and now we’re moving in the direction of putting them in a position to be able to be — defend themselves in ways beyond what they’ve had to deal with so far.”
