As the Senate failed to deliver for ICE and the American people before skipping town, the president and House offered sharp rebukes for those “not doing the right thing.”
“We’re not doing that … ”
Hours after an early morning “unanimous” vote found three Republican and two Democrat senators, including Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD), pushing through a funding bill for the Department of Homeland Security, the light of day brought with it criticism for the latest RINO failure.
In addition to House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) challenging whether Senate Republicans even read the “unconscionable” legislation, President Donald Trump decried the failure to fund U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), asserting, “It wasn’t appropriate.”
Speaking on the phone with Fox News senior White House correspondent Jacqui Heinrich, the chief executive expressed his opinion on the funding concession to Democrats, “Well, it wasn’t good. It wasn’t appropriate. Now, what they should do is they should terminate the filibuster, Jacqui, and just vote, but you have three or four Republicans in there that are not doing the right thing.”
“You can’t have a bill that’s not going to fund — in my opinion, you can’t have a bill that’s not going to fund ICE. You can’t have a bill that’s not going to fund any form of law enforcement, of which ICE is a big form, and so is Border Patrol,” he added.
NEWS: President Trump tells me Senate bill that didn’t fund ICE, CBP “not appropriate”
Just got off the phone with POTUS:
President Trump says of Senate bill that didn’t fund ICE or CBP:

At the same time that Heinrich was reporting on what the president had told her, Johnson held a press conference at the U.S. Capitol where he drew a distinction between the GOP’s affirmation of America’s sovereignty and the Democrats’ open borders madness.
“House Republicans are NOT going to be part of any effort to reopen our borders or stop immigration enforcement. Chuck Schumer’s gambit last night is a joke. We must fully fund Homeland Security and support our brave law enforcement heroes who keep Americans safe,” the speaker captioned his remarks that insisted House Republicans were united before going on to shame their peers in the Senate.
“This gambit that was done last night is a joke,” said Johnson. “I’m quite convinced that it can’t be that every Senate Republican read the language of this bill, and I’m gonna just read you one excerpt of it, because it’s pretty alarming, and it says everything that you need to know.”

After reading from the bill on how it would not fund ICE, the Louisiana congressman stated, “We’re not doing that and it is unconscionable to me that the Democrats would force some sort of negotiation at 3 o’clock in the morning and try to hoist this upon the American people and then get on their jets and go home for their holiday and pretend and think that we’re gonna go along with that.”
While Republican senators were spotted at the airport, sheepishly leaving Washington, D.C. with escorts as the Americans they are meant to represent remained stuck in security lines, Johnson reminded that the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) was working to fulfill the president’s executive order to fund the Transportation Security Administration.
Trump spoke to that as well, telling Heinrich, “It should happen quickly … [OMB Director] Russell Vought would give you the exact information.”
As for next steps, the speaker explained during his press conference that the House would be sending a “clean” continuing resolution to the Senate, kicking the can down the road to Memorial Day weekend, just in time for the next extended congressional vacation.
While others offered their own commentary on the feckless Senate, the president reminded that it came to this because, “This whole thing is about the Democrats wanting to have open borders, no ICE, no Border Patrol. These people are crazy … They want open borders. They want no Border Patrol. They want no ICE. They want no nothing, except for criminals to pour into our country, and it’s not going to happen.”
Speaker Johnson is 100% right to tell the Senate to pound sand on that sneaky DHS bill.
Trying to quietly gut funding for ICE in the middle of the night while everyone jets off for vacation? That’s not negotiation—it’s a straight-up betrayal of border security and the American…

The majority of the people in America want to have Ice funded and protecting our borders and deporting criminals.
But as you can see the Democrats don’t want to listen to the American people.

Thune jetted out of town handing Schumer all of what he wanted while continuing to block recess appointments
If Thune’s not been privately asked to step down from leadership, can’t be far off.

It’s terrible that we have the majority and Rinos are putting the brakes on Making America Great Again.
