President Donald Trump’s playful imitation of a transgender weightlifter was a big hit on Tuesday.
Speaking to House Republicans who gathered for a policy retreat, Trump brought down the house with this weightlifting impersonation. He was remarking on the unfairness of allowing biological men to compete against women, where their innate gender differences give them a massive advantage. The clip was shared by athlete Riley Gaines, who advocates for protecting female sports.

He kicked off his impression by imitating a struggling female weightlifter who was having problems with the bar.
“I want to be more, but I have somebody watching,” he pointed into the audience while laughing. “I want to be more effusive.”
“Drops the thing, walks off the stage crying. Her mother’s crying, her father’s crying,” he continued. “Guy gets up, he’s [asked], ‘Have you lifted before?’ ‘A little bit.’ And he walks up, bing.”
He then imitated the transgender weightlifter putting up the weight with no issue.
“It’s crazy.”
Prior to the bit, Trump noted that his wife, First Lady Melania Trump, “hates” his imitation, which is likely who he said was “watching” and why he couldn’t be “more effusive.”
“By the way, my wife hates it when I do this. She’s a very classy person. She said, ‘It’s so unpresidential.’ But I said, ‘I did become president,’” the president explained. “But she says, ‘Darling, please, the weightlifting is terrible.’”
