Trump spurns ceasefire offer, trolls Iran with ‘Trump Strait’ photo

After musing whether he would “annihilate” Iran, a report on a rejected ceasefire was followed by President Donald Trump proposing a new name for a critical waterway.

Amid the backdrop of the United Nations General Assembly, the ongoing conflict with Iran looked no closer to a resolution. In fact, after a report from The Wall Street Journal addressed the commander-in-chief’s rejection of a seven-day ceasefire leading back to the negotiating table, the president wasted little time reacting with a troll, dubbing the Strait of Hormuz “Trump Strait.”

Within the hour that the Journal cited U.S. officials on Trump’s rejection of Iran’s proposal, the chief executive shared an image of the passage on Iran’s southern border with the new identifier. Florida’s Voice News’ Eric Daugherty reacted, “After 40 MILLION BARRELS of oil surge out of the Strait of Hormuz in 2 days — President Trump DROPS this … ‘TRUMP STRAIT’ … The blockade has turned out to be a HUGE success! The US military is making it all happen. That’s 20M across both days averaged, PRE-WAR flows … God bless the troops making it all possible.”

According to the Journal’s report, “President Trump has rejected Iran’s proposal for a seven-day ceasefire and has told aides he expects to resume bombing Iran after the November midterms … Tehran’s proposal would have reopened the Strait of Hormuz and resumed nuclear talks in return for the U.S. lifting its blockade of Iranian ports, which is causing deep damage to the country’s economy.”

“Trump says openly that Tehran is begging for a deal after the midterms that dismantles its nuclear program,” continued the Journal. “But privately Trump is skeptical Iran would meet his demands and has told his staff that he sees a renewed bombing campaign as likely, the officials said.”

Speaking with reporters at the United Nations on Friday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi contended that talks on the Islamist regime’s nuclear program would only resume if the United States “accepts this plan,” agreeing to a ceasefire including Lebanon, waiving sanctions on Iranian oil sales and lifting the naval blockade.

“And on day seven, the talks with the U.S. will be started for the final deal on mutually agreed subjects,” contended Araghchi.

During his speech at the U.N., the president appeared intent on reminding Iran who had military superiority as he addressed the consideration to “annihilate the Islamic Republic and do it quickly,” all the while speaking of a timeline for a deal that had the Middle Eastern nation waiting until after the midterms.

Given the stakes of the upcoming elections and waning favorability as a result of economic conditions, myriad Republicans voiced disfavor for holding off so long.

As was reported, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) told KTAL, “We’ve got to bring that to a resolution. And the Strait of Hormuz not being open affects commerce. It directly affects gas prices and fuel prices. And also, you know, the price of groceries, for example, because they got to be transported, and the higher fuel prices are a factor in that as well.”
